Weather was terrific. Blue skies, not too hot. Ate like a king. Highly recommend going in the fall.

A few scenes:

Awesome town. I'd definitely retire there and be happy.

I definitely get a New Orleans feel from Charleston, but without all the murders and idiot politicians.

We were in Charleston before the pandemic. The wife commented that it was like a little New Orleans but without the smell of piss and stale beer.

How were the crowds? Savannah was overrun with 20-30 somethings partying. Looking for something more subdued.

The rowdy crowds are there weekend nights on upper King but you can avoid them fairly well if you stay away. Somewhat around the market too but not as much.

Charleston has a larger area to do things than Savannah so you can escape the partiers more easily

Not a problem. We avoided King Street. Our hotel was on Meeting near the market. Other than the Fort Sumter ferry, everything we did was south of our hotel.

That said, this is the busy time of year because of the weather. There seem to be a lot of weddings going on.

I made my dinner reservations back in August. You'll definitely want to book your restaurants as soon as you know you're going.

Btw, we ate at:

Amen Street Fish
Anson
Slightly North of Broad
Burwell's Stone Fire Grill

There are quite a few places where you can have a nice big breakfast/brunch that will hold you til dinner.

Any recommendations on places to eat?

Look two posts up. All of them were outstanding. I was a little "meh" going into Burwells, but it was a fantastic meal.

On Saturday in Savannah, I stopped counting the bachelorette groups at (20). All the places I was advised to book for fine dining were unavailable 45 days out. I had no idea that Savannah was such a popular destination. Sounds like Charlestown is close.

I'm trying to go next week for a quick visit - used to live there for a few years. Fall/Spring are best times to visit.

Nicer hotels downtown (Bennett, Dewberry, Restoration, Spectator, etc) were either all sold out or at $7-800 per night. I'm up for splashing some cash on nice hotels for a few nights as these places are very good, but not that much.

Could barely find a place to stay in the entire city for a random weekend in November.

The traffic wouldn’t make you happy

Chucktown and Nashville are 1a & 1b for bachelorette parties.

Charleston is light years ahead of New Orleans in terms of protecting the brand. It’s a shame because New Orleans heritage runs so much deeper, but the current regime seems intent on running it into the ground.

I love it. I’ve been a bunch and always find something new to do. Was there a month ago and rented a car downtown spent the day brewery hopping and playing on the beaches. Are at 5 Church as well. Very good. Also tried The Ordinary on this trip and it was good just a little to busy for what we were looking for that night. Both places are electric.

Ehh, they’re a lot closer than you think in that aspect.

Flying there with two other couples tomorrow. House we are staying is a block off King. Little of the rowdy crowd won’t bother us as we usually start a little earlier and end a little earlier also. Looking forward to it.
We do have reservations at Halls Chophouse this Sunday.
