Celebrity. All the way. Smaller. Less kids.

I did a year long cruise on the USS LaSalle in Bahrain, I loath them. I did take my mother on a whale watching cruise to Alaska and don't regret it. Since she has passed I will never go on one again, I like the freedom to spend my time exploring the local environment for a a week or three.

My mom just got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and before she doesn’t remember anybody, I am taking her and my dad and my children, kinda as a long goodbye. My grandmother slipped away from this same disease and I wish I had the same opportunity.

I’m really sorry to hear that. I too did the goodbye cruise with my mom and those are memories you will cherish forever. Good on you for caring for your folks in such a fashion. Have fun despite the circumstance. Being with her for this time will make even the cruise which you loathe a rewarding and incredible experience. Much love dude.

I have been on Celebrity (not Beyond) and I love that line. I like the Aqua Class cabins because you can dine in Blu which is exclusive for Aqua Class, but you can order from Main dining menu. It’s just a really nice, relaxed and intimate setting. You can also use the steam room/saunas whenever without paying a fee. Speaking of fees, Celebrity does tend to nickel and dime.

Beyond just had a maintenance issue recently that required them to cancel a sailing but I think it’s back in service. Might want to check CruiseCritic.

My wife and I are going on an MSC cruise with two other couples in December. We've never been on an MSC cruise, but both of the other couples have. We're all booked in the Yacht Club section of the ship, which our travel companions have used before, and they tell us it is fantastic!

Celebrity Beyond just had to cancel a cruise due to repairs.

If you can’t figure out on your own how to turn your brain off for a few days and have a nice time with your aging parents on a floating resort then none of us here stand a chance of being helpful to you

For a long time Celebrity was adults only, they do allow kids now though it hasn't been marketed towards that demographic in my experience. Therefore, you tend to get older groups which could be a good thing given your circumstances.

I haven't been on a Celebrity ship in 15 years but, we had a nice trip. I was in high school at the time and there were still enough kids my age that we were able to have fun.

USS LaSalle in Bahrain,

After the first gulf war?
I went on a Tiger cruise on LHA-4 as a kid, and watched them blow drones out of the sky with sea sparrows. Why anyone would want to go on a civilian cruise is perplexing.

MSC is cheaper and it's fine. But if you have the option Celebrity is much better although more expensive. Also, Celebrity is actually having a pretty decent sale for Dec and Jan sailing dates for the next two days.

I think it was the only non hospital ship in the USN I ever saw painted white.
