Taking my youngest boy (3)to a monster truck show at NRG in a few weeks and was curious about lodging. I’ve heard the area right around NRG is kinda sketchy so I’m wondering what’s the closest area that’s not bad ? TIA.

Closest I’ve stayed is at the Indigo a couple of different times near the galleria. Seemed ok at the time but I know there was a shooting at the mall over the summer and the New Orleans cop got shot and killed at a restaurant. So may not be as good as it was.

Nothing wrong with NRG area for lodging. Its just not ideal for nightlife. It’s not dangerous. Just nothing to do. And I’ll assume nightlife with a 3 year old is not a priority.

Eat at Canes. Watch the trucks. Stay at a Marriott. You will be fine.

Momma will want to stay in Galleria area which is close.

Hyatt Regency or Hyatt Place Galleria. Better area. Easy drive to NRG.

You could stay downtown or in the medical center area and take the train to the stadium. might be a fun experience for a 3 year old.

The NASA museum is half hour south and it might be interesting for a kid as well.

I'd stay to the near west side, Galleria perhaps or Rice Village.

Agree with those saying around NRG just isn't good because there isn't much around there. I've been to plenty restaurants that are nearby, but there aren't a lot.

Galleria is perfectly fine anywhere. Shootings here are much more random than what you are thinking about in BR or Nola. Galleria is extremely nice and there are lots of restaurants and shopping nearby.

I've lived here for 30 years and there are only a few places (parts of the wards, mostly) that I would really consider unsafe or would not go. It's a pretty good place overall.

Do this. It's pretty easy.

What is now the Wyndham is basically on NRG Stadium property. It’s a easy walk from the hotel. That’s where we stay when LSU plays at NRG.

ETA: The reviews are pretty spotty. It may be shite now that Wyndham runs it. It was fine when it was a Crowne Plaza but we haven’t been there since it was sold.

Agreed. The metrorail leaves right from the stadium parking lot. After the Texas Bowl a few years back the train was free for the return trip, too.

Yes much more laid back than Houston, smaller town feel, the Hilton on clear lake is nice a little dated but always has an available room… I took my son and nephew to monster jam last year and the parking was a disaster FYI.. about 50% of the audience missed 25% of the show

I-45 north and 610W interchange is usually busy so that coupled with the NRG parking just be sure to give yourself extra time… from Hilton CL to NRG parking is about an hour during events
