Nothing like getting on a SWA struggling to find a bin then getting into a middle seat.

Sounds like your check in game is weak

Southwest’s system is uniquely gamed by fake cripples. Every SWA flight i take has 5-6+ wheelchairs pre-boarding and remarkably almost all of these idiots get up and walk off the plane after landing.

I fly almost weekly. The SWA attendants call this phenomenon the "southwest miracle", while the United attendants refer to is as "jetway Jesus".

If you are a solo traveler, the middle to late B group might be the best. At that stage, you can probably find an aisle/window seat in the back. Alternatively, you can also choose the most attractive middle seat available. Sitting in a middle seat next to a couple 100lb women can be preferable to risking a fatty sitting in the middle next to you.

I have to say we’ve never had an issue with southwest boarding as a family, and actually think it works very well for families. Family boarding happens after group A and in my experience there are always whole open rows after group A for us to sit together as a unit.

I pity the person who has a decent B number to a family destination. Half the plane to Florida will be families.

A cruel joke is to checkin late and get a C number if you're traveling as a family because it won't matter but some poor bastard is about to get hosed.

It also works well if you're traveling alone, especially in the summer. I checked in on time, was like B15-20 and ended up in the first 5 rows on recent flights because so many travelers were family and wanted to sit together, going towards the back and taking middle seats. So yay, aisle seat, front of the plane.

I fly American, and I prefer to chose my own seats. It’s pretty simple

Again, if you aren't a retard, what is the material difference? I'm a window guy, I've never not been able to sit in a window seat on a Southwest flight. What's the difference between the window in row 12 or 14?

At least on southwest the plane gets in the air. American may be the worst airline in existence.

MSY is the worst for this. You can always count on 5-6 of the usual suspects in wheelchairs who board before everyone else. Last time I flew SW at least the gate agent didn't let the 4 able bodied people board with the "handicapped" person.

Pre-seleting seats, you can get bulkheads, avoid sitting in front of the exit row, and there isn't the cattle call of 40 people waiting to walk down the jetway.

First Class
Lounges
Priority Check In
Boarding groups
OneWorld Alliance (partner flights)
And I like to select my seat ahead of time, especially when I am traveling with my family. My preference.

Reminds me of my flight from Denver to Orlando last month. I had B-19 and got a aisle seat near the back.

If the boarding process was run properly then Southwest's non assigned seating would be fine. I'm getting more and more convinced its not though. I've had people jump ahead of me with C group tickets when I'm in the A group who were allowed to board. Some gate agents send them back. Some let them in. Time and again I've been A 10 or better only to board and find the plane with 50 people already there.

Must be a new Orleans issues with Southwest.

Southwest out of Nashville is fantastic and is easily the most consumer friendly airline out there. The flight attendants always make sure people board in order, plus basically every passenger knows how it works. Add that the overhead bins are never full because everyone checks their bags.

Out of Dallas it blows and now they are more expensive than AA and Delta so I don't even consider them even though they fly out of Love which is 20 minutes closer than DFW
