Will be our second time doing Dopey. Had my inlaws with us that time to watch our son who was only just over a year old. He's 4 now so we're bringing our own sitter. With plenty of space in our room and enough points to pay for our Southwest flights, it was way cheaper to bring someone along who we know well than Pay Kids Nite Out $500+ to basically sit in the living room while he sleeps.

That isn't quite true. The soonest you can book fastpasses is 60 days out IF you are staying onsite. Otherwise, 30 days. If they stay on site they already missed the 60 day mark but it only really matters for the most popular rides like Flight of Passage in AK and 7 Dwarves Mine Train in MK. Otherwise, you should still get what you want, may just have to be flexible on the time but keep refreshing every day and I bet you get what you want AND when you want it.

Bay Lake Tower is better. Just walk to and from MK. Monorail to Epcot. Bus elsewhere. Perfect with kid(s).

Yea easy walk but I find those two contemporary resorts so stale.
Many people want to stay at Poly or GF on the monorail and then they don't realize the boat line is super long and the monorail looks like LA traffic when MK closes.

How is Bay Lake stale? We love it. And I’m not in the room to take glamour shots with the decor anyway. And the views of either lake and/or MK can’t be beat. So if you get tired early, you still don’t miss the fireworks. We prefer the lake view for the sunrise.

I find the contemporary decor just ugly. Have not been in bay lake much though.

Lots of hard edges and neutral colors without patterns. Not “homish” but not ugly or offputting imo. Bay Lake is the DVC resort so condos/studios.

I love the Contemporary. It's not pretty interior design wise, just feels so Disney to me. Being able to walk to the MK is a great way to start off and end the night for me too.

Went back in February and we stayed off site. Now granted we were doing 2 days at Universal in addition to 2 days at Disney. The hotel was about 5 minutes from Universal and about a 10-12 minute drive from Disney World. Paid for the preferred parking each day at Disney and got a spot pretty close to front of the lot.
Granted there are no kids with us, so we didn't feel it was worth to pay the extra money to stay on site when only 2 out of the 4 days were spent at the Disney parks. To me, a lot of it depends on what you're doing on your vacation and whether there are children involved.

I live in Florida and have a family of 4, we find a suite off site for around $125/ night. Sometimes a house or condo VRBO, but always a multi bedroom just depends on who is visiting.
I've stayed on site, and its great. But you pay dearly for it. If its a vacation thats like once a lifetime or once every 5 or 10 years then staying on site is probably worth it But we go about once a year for 3-4 days, and its no where near the money for us. The only place that staying on site is worth it over parking, is Magic Kingdom. Unless you get hammered at Epcot or something. But the other 3 resorts you park maybe 400 yards from the entrance so its a short walk.
So yeah, we save like $400/ night by staying off the resort and have one day that's kinda a pita in Magic Kingdom.
My work around that is that we book a breakfast at one of the hotels on the monorail or at MK to beat the crowd. If you eat breakfast at a resort on the monorail you can park all day there, breakfast is like $40 for a family of 4 and parking is $20 so you basically get breakfast for $20. (blah blah blah not supposed to do that but we've done it over 10 times without an issue Disney is not going to tow you unless you are an obvious ahole).

Most breakfast buffets are $26/person. And the a la cart ones aren’t much cheaper. Not saying your plan doesn’t “work”. But no reason to exaggerate how much you’re saving. I’m also sure you get free vallet parking if you have a meal in the parks. Good for all day. So you’ve been missing out on that by this “workaround” of eating at resorts, and transportation to and from them when you could have been parking vallet for free, taking the monorail to MK, eating breakfast there before the park opens, and already be inside without having to deal with the heavy traffic at the entrance at all...
So, congrats on doing it wrong I guess.
ETA: Just looked it up. You can vallet for free anymore (ended about 2 years ago) unless you have a Tables in Wonderland card, which I believe you are eligible for as a Florida resident.

I don’t think this guy has been to Disney more than twice. His advice is to stay off site unless you got to MK or EPCOT a lot... just the two main parks that everyone spends most of their time. Then he seems to think there are 3 other “resorts”. I’m assuming he means parks. Just two others. That’s on top of his incorrect pricing and bad planning.

The wait is much shorter right before the show that vloses out the park. My wife and I got the girls in there and got back just in time to see it get started.
