Destin/30a Recommendations

Taking the family to the beach for the first time later this summer.
We are looking to stay in the Destin/30A area and would like to stay at a condo/house with a private beach. We have seen a ton of videos from this weekend that shows the beaches stuffed with people and would like to avoid that so the kids can enjoy the water without feeling like it's Disney World and people are on top of them.
Any recommendations?

It’s expensive, but Alys is the best place down there imo.

Seascape has some nice condos across the street from a nice beach. The beach is not private, but you can walk a short distance from the property to get away from the crowds.

If this is what you're looking for, you might consider heading a bit further east to the Cape San Blas/St. George Island area.

I sincerely hope you have a very good time but this is why I avoid that place in the summer. It's a freaking zoo.

Here are your options for sparsely populated beaches:
Holiday Isle, especially the east jetty area.
The east and west borders of Henderson State Park.
The beaches on the west end of Okaloosa Island are usually pretty empty as well.
The best empty beaches are those between Navarre and P'cola Beach, but you won't find lodging.

No beaches are empty, but there are stretches on 30A where there aren’t many people. Alys is good in this respect because many owners aren’t in the rental program and at any given time many of the houses there are vacant. They have a large beach, and while there are people there it’s not crowded. Further west, Watersound also has a large beach that is rarely crowded in my experience. Both of these places are on the expensive side.

This is accurate information.

Just got back from Navarre. It's not too crowded and still has the emerald colored water

Grayton Beach. Off of 98 past the madness of Destin and just before the craziness of Seaside. They have their own beach that very few folks not staying there go to. A couple of good divy bars/restaurants.
No condos, no hotels, just home rentals. It's not cheap but easy to get one in walking distance.

Too crowded. Keep heading east past this area.

Get a house or condo in Navarre or Pensacola and drive to Gulf Islands National Seashore, between the two.
If you're willing to walk, you'll have a whole stretch of the best beach to yourself, and you'll never think about dealing with the crowds in Destin again.

Look for shorter condo buildings in destin. Just east of Henderson Beach state park there are a few. Shorter buildings have fewer people staying and less umbrellas on their private beaches, plus being right next to the edge of the state park, it doesn't get a lot of foot traffic.

This (although there ARE places on 30A where you can find a little less crowding, but you pay for it).
My family has been doing to the Gulf for over half a century. We started back before I was born when my uncle had a beach house out on Ft. Morgan that got destroyed by Hurricane Frederic in the 70s.
We then started going to Gulf Shores, then Destin, then 30A, constantly moving further east to "escape" the crowds. They were great years with multiple generations all getting a large house or condo together with grandparents, siblings, cousins, etc..
We ceased going probably 10 years ago due to family just sort of growing apart (and my parents passing away) as well as my own immediate family unit wanting to pursue other vacation interests, but our next move was to start looking to St. George Island.
