Spent some time between there and Leadville this past summer hiking a few fourteeners. I really liked both of those towns.
My brother lived in Leadville, and I loved visiting there.

Copper Mountain can be a lot of fun, hauling mountain bikes up on the chair lift, then riding back down.

It looks like this would be a good day trip for us.
The train looks like it could be a good way to see some of the area and mountains.
It also looks like some of the old mines around there could be a fun thing to go see.

Heading to Breckenridge for 3 days in mid-June and then will head up to Estes Park for 3 days. No real plans other than to take the family hiking and enjoy some mountain air.
We've been to Estes Park (RMNP) before so know the drill there. Any suggestions for Breck area - hikes/restaurants/etc...contemplating taking a day trip from there to try and hit the Maroon Bells.
Just trying to break up the trip a bit and rentals in Breck are surprisingly cheap in the summer.

I will say that if you're really wanting to do lift-access mountain biking, making the drive to Winter Park (called Trestle Downhill Park in the summer) is well worth it. They have amazing trails at a variety of skill levels and their infrastructure is top notch. If you're truly a beginner on the bike, then probably any of the resorts that have lift-access will be fine, as you're really just rolling down the mountain taking in the views. If you want to learn to jump and get faster on the bike, then Trestle is fantastic.
Back to Copper Mountain: it also has a Woodward facility which would be pretty awesome for teenage boys with their trampolines, foam pits, ramps, etc..

There's always a festival going on in one mountain town or another any given weekend of the summer.
Breck Beer Festival is 7/11
Keystone Wine & Jazz Festival is 7/18-19
Steamboat has a rodeo every Saturday evening at the arena right there in town, great for kids too.
Just search events in all the mountain towns and choose.

Salida has their river feast late June too. 4th of July in small mountains is always a blast

FIBArk is a great festival, but yes, it's a month earlier than OP's trip timing.

You staying in Denver? I live in northern Colorado, I don’t know what your capabilities are as far as camping/venturing off the beaten path, but I think the other areas of Colorado are well spoken for in this thread.
Camping in the Poudre Canyon then seeing a show at Mishawaka is always a summer tradition of ours. You can fish while drinking some beers during the day then head to a really cool amphitheater in the canyon for a concert.
Walden is a beautiful area, Longdraw Reservoir, Red Feather Lakes. Just a few spots that hardly ever get mentioned but I love them

if you go to Canon city be sure to drive skyline drive. It is on the way to royal gorge. Canon city is not far from Colorado Springs, pikes peak, and cripple creek. Lot to do around there.

This Mish is amazing. My wife and I got married then moved to Fort Collins. We spent a lot of time up the canyon and at the Mish. Best story I have was that we went on our honeymoon to Jamaica (delayed honeymoon after we'd already moved to FoCo). Got back from Jamaica to find out that Toots and the Maytals were playing at the Mish that night. After 10 days of Jamaican music, why not another night once we get back Stateside?

Delete the last sentence of your post, we do not need the world knowing about these spots.

I know I know I should, but I’m giving the people what they want to know
The Mish is the greatest unknown secret in Colorado, if it blows up I’ll blame myself

Hard to beat Breck. Throw in a day trip to Vail.

skyline drive
Been making the drive through Cañon City on our way to Breckenridge for 12 years in a row. First time I’m hearing of this road. Can’t wait to try it first week of July on my way out there!

BV is a good choice if you’re not looking for a resort. Quaint town with everything you need for a home base. Salida is about 40 minutes south of there. Plus you can take 70 on the way there and 285 on the way back to see some different areas. If you want to camp, Cottonwood Pass has a ton of car camping spots.
BV is at 8k’. Leadville is 10k. That’s a big difference if you are coming from sea level, especially when sleeping.
If you go to this area, don’t forget to make a Melanzana reservation.
