I’d agree. I was newly pregnant and slept so much of it but what I saw was fantastic. My husband loved it. Silverto. Was a cool little town as well.
We took the bus up and the train down.

Looking at one of two train trips.
What would be a better day trip from Breck?
Leadville Train or Royal Gorge Train?

The LSU Geology Camp doesn't encourage visitors, but if you have any alumni pull give it a shot: LINK
It's actually one of the best and few remaining field camps of it's sort.

Never knew about this here. Pretty cool for the students. Interesting reading about Charles Barney. My dad was also a geo at Superior in Houston when Mobil acquired them in 1984. They had to have worked together during that time.

Steamboat is very nice in the summer. We went back in 2021, nice hiking around train and horseback riding. Very enjoyable.
Leadville is very nice. But....be very aware of the altitude. I spent a few days there in 2023. After a hike to 12,000 feet, i developed altitude sickness and spend most of the evening in the ER. The town itself is over 10K and will affect you if your not used to higher elevations.
