We just had use previous travel credit and are heading to Denver July 22-26(wed-sun)
It will be my me and my wife and 3 boys(20,17,13)
We went to Breckenridge 2 summers ago for our 1st trip to Colorado and loved it. The last trip also included some time in Estes Park and RMNP but Breck was our favorite.
We enjoyed the easy hikes and downtown areas.
We have no problems heading back there, but want to see if there are other recommendations around that area that would be worth looking into.

Came here to post Estes park, but I see you've been there. We went to Durango on our last trip but didn't like it as much as previous trip to Estes Park.

You may like Durango area if you are into off road Jeep trails.

Steamboat during the summer is amazing also. There is plenty of trails to hike or just relax around town.

Spent some time between there and Leadville this past summer hiking a few fourteeners. I really liked both of those towns.

I saw that Leadville has a train operating during this time. Looks like a good time

I would say very similar. Flying into Hayden is easy and about 30 mins away. The resort has biking and plenty of things to do. The town is a 10 min ride away, which has everything.

That train ride to Silverton was some of the prettiest mountain views I've ever seen.

You won't want to go to Durango as that's too far from Denver for that short of a trip. Salida and Buena Vista area are both great and not TOO far from Denver. It's definitely a different vibe to Breckenridge and the other Summit County towns as they're not big ski resort towns in the same way as Breck/Frisco/etc..

True.

What about Manitou Springs?

It's sort of a suburb of Colorado Springs (which I kind of hate), but it's a very cool down. It reminds me of a Colorado version of Eureka Springs in Arkansas if you've ever been there. It's all stacked onto a hillside with crazy curvy streets. You've got cool stuff nearby like Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, etc.. as well.

Just returned from 2 nights in Manitou Springs and then The Broadmoor . Manitou Springs may be worth a day trip to sample the springs and a cute town but cheesy nothing to do unless you like fudge shops and jerky. The Broadmoor is a great resort.
In late July Beaver Creek and day trip into Vail is very nice (Vail can get crowded.) Dne as k over to Aspen for the day and that is a week well spent.

Not sure how far you are willing to travel. Aspen/Snowmass is about 3 hours from Denver. Lodging in Aspen is pricey. You can find decent rentals in Snowmass Village. The Maroon Bells and Driving Independence Pass are worthy day trips. Go early in the morning to see wildlife. We had a moose run beside our vehicle driving up Independence pass. The Views along the pass to the Continental divide are spectacular. You can also go online a secure a parking pass for Maroon Bells (avoid the shuttle). We went in July last year. Morning lows were in the upper 40"s.

I've done Beaver creek/Vail recently. Can be pricier, but all you want. about 2.5 hours from DIA.

Huge plug for Buena Vista and Salida. Not sure your plans or availability of hotel/Airbnb, but both towns are incredible to spend several days in.

Summit County is fine, but really just resort towns and well there’s a lot to do. There’s really no overall vibe to it.

OP says he has teenage boys…they will absolutely love the “scenery” in BV in the summer. He may not see them for a week except for breakfast LOL
