Any recommendations on places to visit, things to do, places to eat and drink? I have a few things scheduled this week, but looking for more to do. Staying on King St.

Thanks

I enjoyed eating at the Ordinary. I think it might be on King Street.

The Hall's Chop House in Charleston is the best steakhouse i have ever been to and possibly one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

Superb on all fronts and when we got home a week later, there was a hand written thank you card from our waiter in our mailbox. Just a fantastic experience.

Edmunds Oast is a personal fav…

Rodney Scott BBQ is legit. Lewis is superb too.

It’s a great foodie town.

Random question about Rodney Scott… What’s up with the sauce? My wife and I got the sampler type plate at the Birmingham location. I felt like the ribs and brisket were amazing to the point that I ate so much that I experienced meat sweats for the first time, but thought the sauces were hot garbage.

It was strange. Elite meats though.

eta: to OP, Hall’s is consistently ranked in the top 5 of steakhouses in America. Wally Hall is really cool too. It was our anniversary and he obviously does it for a lot of customers, but he personally brought champagne to our table, made sure he took our picture at the table, and chatted us up while we waited on the cab. He went to MSU and he gave my wife a little shite about Ole Miss. Was happy to take another picture with us when we were leaving too. The guy knows how to make a lasting impression.

I was indifferent to the sauce. Sort of a letdown; I agree. I do prefer a Carolina style vinegar based sauce; but, Rodney’s isn’t the best example. I actually did both Rodney’s and Lewis at same time. Ordered one of everything from both with a few friends. Was a great time…

Thank you. I’m actually trying to decide between Hall’s and Revival for Friday evening.

I’ll second Hall’s. The food is great but the service and atmosphere are memorable. Worth a visit for sure.

If you ask a local where to go, they will tell you Oak Steakhouse. If you ask someone who has visited CHS, they will point you to Halls. I went to Halls, and I overall had a great experience. Get their homemade Worcestershire sauce. My aged ribeye had a lot of gristle and was severely undercooked, to my request. I will give Oak a shot next time though. Also, they spent like 5 mins from our dining experience to go over all the cuts of meat in a presentation format. I already knew all of them and of course, the servers personal favorite cut was the HUGE bone-in filet (most expensive cut).

Other great places
Nico's for the best seafood
Rodney Scotts for BBQ - Got a picture with him when I was there.
Poogan's Porch - Brunch
Prohibition Bar

To do:
Horse Carriage ride
Beach
USS Yorktown (you could spend an entire day in this museum).
Walk the Battery
Visit The Citadel and College of Charleston
Shem Creek was neat.
River Cruise out to Fort Sumter.
Cypress Garden is a wildlife area where you can rent row boats and go through where the rowboat scene of The Notebook was filmed. Get there early, there is usually a 2-3 wait.
Boone Hall and Middleton Place were neat places as well.

Agreed on Hall's. I mentioned it on here a bunch, but it really is a must-visit when in Charleston.

We will be back in Charleston next month and already have reservations for the family.

We finished every night with a trip to Carmella's, a dessert bar on East Bay.

You are lucky to be there during oyster season. Seek out Bowen's oyster house. It's worth the drive. Might want to call ahead though, this is also wedding season and wedding parties will book the whole place out.

There’s a good thread or two on Charleston on here that you should pull up.

We’ve been going nonstop since we moved down here 8 months ago. Girlfriend has a list of 56 places and I think we’ve hit about 40 so far, and a bunch multiple times. There’s so much to do and see and places to eat, but I might be able to help narrow things down if you’re considering a few options.

These are good but unless you’re into the history I’d recommend a sunset cruise that takes you out that way and still gives you some history.

Lewis over Rodney Scott’s every time for both the BBQ and scene. Manager at Lewis will give you a tour of the smokehouse if you ask. She’s pretty good looking too.

Our best fancy meals have probably been SNOB, Chubby Fish, 167 Raw, Bar167, Vern’s, High Cotton, Wild Common, Hall’s (we haven’t been to Oak yet). The Ordinary was very good too.

Weather is gonna be amazing this weekend. I think we’re heading out to the beach on IOP.

Drayton and Magnolia are our favorites over Boone and Middleton. Middleton's gardens are beautiful and may have more color year 'round, but the camellias and azaleas at Magnolia are amazing when they are in bloom.

We were impressed by The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene (old town Mt. Pleasant on Shem Creek). Get there early as they get busy and have a small dining room, but the food is amazing...super fresh seafood and made from scratch desserts.

Best all around dessert place we have found is Kaminsky's on North Market.

Rodney Scott's BBQ is good. Collards are amazing. Whole hog plate is good. Whole hog sandwich is amazing and comes with pig skins. We also really like Melvin's in Mount Pleasant for their mustard sauce.

When we were there last summer we tried a little place in Mt. Pleasant called Paige's Okra Grill. Somewhat eclectic menu, but everything we tried was good.

Outside of the plantations, certainly walk the Battery/White Point Gardens. Tour one of the houses in that area (Edmondton-Alson House is a great one). Also go in the old churches and walk their graveyards (St. Michaels at the 4 corners of law is a personal favorite). If you have kids go to the aquarium. Fort Sumter and Patriots Point if you are into history/military history. Bonus is that a Sumter tour boat leaves from Patriots Point. Can knock out both in one day.

It's not little, it's actually a very large establishment. I have only eaten there for breakfast, it gets high marks on everything I've ever had there. Fried Flounder, scrambled eggs, grits, bloody mary, excellent breakfast at Paiges.

Are they still all cash and no AC?

Pretty sure they take cards now. Can't remember about the AC. I'm thinking no, just more like a big screened porch wall. But I could be wrong on both counts...that was Father's Day week of '22.

Lots of good recommendations already in this thread. Two of my favorites are Cru Cafe for lunch and Muse for dinner. Cru has one of the best hamburgers. So good I get it for lunch several time a month. Get the Asian slaw as a side.
