Looking for a 5-6 night run and have not been to either. We want to drive and spend some good quality time together once we get there.

Which would you pick and what activities are there for elementary aged kids?

If neither, what’s a drivable option within a 9-10 hour radius that you’d choose?

Do you want crowds or no crowds?

there's some great cabins right outside of Gatlinburg up in the mountains. did that w/ the kids once and it was nice, once we got tired of the cheesy tourist crowd, we headed back to the cabin to relax. after a day of being a tourist, a bourbon on the rocks with a mountain view from a hot tub was mighty fine.

Pretty accurate. You don't want to spend 5-6 days there unless you really, really enjoy hanging out at a cabin and hot tub.

A lot of the mountain cabins in the Smokey Mountain area have lots of games, air hockey, pool table, ping pong, that kind of stuff. Many have hot tubs.

I would not stay in Gatlinburg. I'd pick a cabin nearby and do park things, maybe a mountain coaster. Visit Gatlinburg, but don't stay there.

Gatlinburg

Townsend is just outside of Gatlinburg. You'll have peace and quiet, but can still easily drive into Gatlinburg for tourist fun.

+1

It was nice to be able to hangout with family, but I wish there was at least some good scenery or something.

We stayed at Dolly's Dreammore resort recently. Had elementary aged kids. They really enjoyed it (movie nights, free smores, crafts, lemonade, music in the lobby). Starbucks in the lobby. Plus, Dollywood is open then, and you get some perks for staying at her resort

Townsend is great. The area around Fontana Dam is a little further out but also quiet.

BB is more of an outdoor trip…rent a pontoon boat, zipline, kayak, mini golf, go carts. Doubt much is open in the winter but I haven’t actually gone then.
