I haven't been to a lot of them, but we usually wind up at the Pink House and it is very good.

I liked this place. Good beer, good food. Kid friendly.

People are going to say The Grey. I wanted to like this place based off of reviews. It was so over the top pretentious, and I love restaurants, that it ruined it for me. I left after one drink and the app.

Treylor Park / The Hitch is the opposite and my favorite place in town. Also the Cuban place on MLK, I forget the name, is really good.

I was there in October and ate at Alligator Soul. I would eat there again. Pink House was good as well.

I've been here for several months and have four to go ... even in Pando times I have made the effort to get out for some dinners. I have to say the food across the board in this town is just OK. There is something missing and I cannot put a finger on it.

That said ..

If you can get in at the Grey make sure you sit in the main room. It's a beautiful space. Drinks and food are decent, but doesn't match the hype.

The old grand dames are what they are -- steeped in history with classics galore. That flounder at the Pink House is solid.

For a little beach/marsh vibe -- check out the Wylde or Sea Wolf in Tybee. Solid outdoor seating as needed.

Collins Quarter, Alligator Soul and Crystal Parlor (actually solid and fun place) are all decent

Agreed. After 4-5 visits and having some good food and fun, it's still not at the level of Charleston and New Orleans (food wise). Making massive strides, though.

I haven't been to the Grey but I've had their burger at the market restaurant and it was fantastic. Given all I've read about the original place I see no way it's not incredibly overhyped.

I'm very interested to see all the new places that have opened up along the river in that new power plant complex, even though River St is someplace I've avoided at all costs.

I will have to check out the new development you speak of ... I must say the most fun and well appointed meal I've had was at Sea Wolf on Tybee.

Looks interesting and fairly varied. Already seems better than the usual River St tourist garbage but time will tell.

The Grey is hit or miss for me but I don't know how it's viewed as pretentious. It's a pretty laid back fine dining experience IMO.

I felt the exact same way. Like you, I love creative restaurants. The Grey was a big ole "meh" for me. Pretentious, small portions even for that type of restaurant.. I don't know. I feel like maybe it would make more sense outside of the south since most of the dishes are a play on southern food (collard greens, ___ and grits, etc.).

I watched the Chef's Table or whatever show it was that featured the chef and they never talked at all about the food or her skill. It was just about her background/upbringing as a black woman. Not to knock her background at all, but it struck me as odd that you'd do an hour long feature on a chef and make very little mention of the actual food or her cooking.

My favorite places in Savannah for quite a while have been Vic’s on the river and Alligator Soul. Not sure if Vic’s still has it but used to do a flounder dish that was really good. Husk is good too and Old Pink House is pretty good.

I'll add a vote for Crystal Beer Parlor. Oldest restaurant in Savannah for a reason. Great decently priced food. Great atmosphere.

The riverside district is a great space and more refined than the rest of river street. Has a lot of potential

With that said, the BBQ place and district seafood aren't anything special. I haven't tried chophouse. I've heard decent things about the rooftop bar, but this area is more of a impress you with the novelty and entertainment than anything if substance at this time.

--

I think Savannah has a ton a good restaurants for a city of it's size...but if you're trying to compare everything to nola and charleston...it's gonna lose.

Wylde as mentioned is good for a marsh/outdoor vibe. I prefer the view and food at pearls but pearls lacks outdoor seating.

The grove and fat radish are good eats as well, but they won't make the tried and true lists of what's already been mentioned.
