Barcelona/Rome hotel recommendations

We are going in June for the first time, wife, me, 11 yr old daughter and my in laws. We are doing a cruise on the new Sun Princess starting in Barcelona and ending in Rome. Will be in Barcelona a day or two before we leave and probably two days at end in Rome before coming back. Any recommendations on best places to stay, and any tour recommendations?

We are doing a similar trip in July and we just booked an Airbnb in Barcelona just outside the Gothic Quarter.

We had just two days in Barcelona a while back in the middle of a long vacation. Stayed at the Ritz. Was perfect for what we wanted. Great view among other things.

I stayed at the Hotel Arc La Rambla before my cruise from Barcelona. It was right on Las Ramblas and it was walking distance to the cruise bus stop.

Went on our honeymoon a couple years ago to Rome and stayed at Hotel Albergo del Senato. It’s in the same plaza as The Pantheon. The view was incredible. We stayed in a suite and it wasn’t terribly expensive.

El Palace Hotel Barcelona. Good location, great rooftop pool/bar with awesome view of city and Sagrada Familia.
