Are planes landing a lot faster?

I feel like these planes are coming in way too hot. I don’t know if it’s just me or just the luck of the draw but I’ve had a lot of dicey landings recently.

Okay you got me curious . What plane types have you been on? Landing on a 739 feels a lot faster than a CRJ-900 for example, but found a site with landing speeds for different aircraft types.

140-160mph average, but they can operate higher and still be in spec. I'll agree with you that I've had some fast landing flights recently (looking at the 739s in particular) but just chalk it up to pilot and air traffic control speed preferences

When Landing (Approach)
Most commercial airliners land with a speed of between 240 to 265 km/h or 150 to 165 mph.
Landing speed depends on the weight of the plane, the runway surface, and the plane’s flap settings.

Jet fuel is expensive. Gotta get that big bird on the ground, chief.

Commercial airlines, whether it’s a 737 or Airbus 321 Neo. I’ve noticed this the past year or so. Some of the landings were a little violent

It can depend on weather, and sometimes ATC at very busy airports.

I’ve heard it depends on pilot experience. Former Navy pilots land fast, hard and come at a wild trajectory because they are trained to land on aircraft carriers. Other former military pilots are more easy and slower.

No such thing.

No. Faster landings cause tires to wear out faster. Tires are expensive so airlines discourage faster landings.

I've always heard this as well. Navy pilots had a short runway and Air Force had a long runway to glide in on. I've heard this from pilot friends. It may be an old wives tail that they perpetuate.

I've got 2 pilot buddies, one is an ex Marine chopper pilot flying for Southwest and the other is an ex-Navy pilot flying A321's for AA.
The ex-Marine flies like that 737 is his own personal Ferrari while the ex-Navy guy flies like his grandma is holding a cassrole in the backseat of the family Truckster

True story, AA pilots are known to taxi slower than any other airline.

This is a myth. At the end of the day. Pilots are type rated on commercial aircraft and fly within a very specific envelope. They don’t get to just fly an approach faster and tighter.

WN pilots taxi like they’re on a racetrack.

Kay. Did you hear the whooshing sound as the joke went over your head?
Here's more from that website for you:

I pulled that stunt on a family trip to Denver. Business flyers experience far more than tourists. Captain told the cabin the Co-Pilot Captain Easy was landing today. "We call him easy because you can't tell when he touches down." Bang, bang, skip, boom ....yeah right. At the gate we get up and I comment to the in-laws and stepson ..:Dang Navy pilot, still trying to get the tail hook down." They got to the front and got invited into the cockpit. Stepson asks ...."How did you learn to fly?" "Well the pilot learned in commercial flight school or you can do as I did. Flying for the Navy."

I've felt that way the past few years. Seems like in the past the planes would slowly descend and land. Now it feels like we're still going really fast just above the ground then bam.

Most commercial aircraft now have Autolaisnd systems which basically require no pilot. The old way of stairstepping the descent is obsolete and the plane makes a continuous, steady descent.

That explains it then.
