In Rome (subtle brag) and my Airbnb I checked into was listed as having AC and it doesn't. The only things I cared about was AC and location.

Emailed Airbnb and they are looking into it. Apartment owner is also trying to charge me an additional €100 outside of Airbnb for various fees. Not going to pay that.

Anyone with prior experience or recommendations would be appreciated. Happy Travels!

Had one time where the owner's roommate didn't know I was coming... thought I was about to get murdered when I walked through that door at 10pm

Yes... Had a bad experience and when I left a negative review the owner tried to charge me extra. Took Airbnb a little over a month to settle it

So do y'all read all the reviews before booking these places? We read most of the reviews and never book a place without several reviews over 2 or 3 years. So far so good....well in Nola we had a repairman show up unannounced and as I was sizing him up another stranger showed up saying he was the neighbor there to let the repairman in if we weren't there...... Was legit but totally inappropriate.....and another owner that harrased me after I left an honest review.......again......another Nola place.....and then another Nola place that my wife refused to stay at as she said it was sketchy.....seemed fine to me......but we have stayed at places all over Europe and the western US and NYC with no issues.....just in Nola.

stayed at a place in mexico city that felt like a prison cell. No water (and you cant drink tap water there), rock hard cot of a bed, no amenities whatsoever, and it was subterranean with a sidewalk level window next to the bed, so we heard every last sound on the street all night. Far from how it was pictured online. We didn't want to get tangled up in some protracted mess so after one sleepless night we bolted for a hotel instead and told the host something came up. I'm kind of glad we didn't make a big deal out of for the reasons I'm reading about in some of these posts. It just wasn't worth it.

Sorry about that experience! I am a host and I always look after my guests' comfort. But I do have something to share though. I've had guests(honeymoooners) who seemed to have forgotten that they can actually make love without being too noiseyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy lol.

Had a bunch of issues in Ecuador (late cancellations). Airbnb gave us a good amount in credit for the hassle and we just found another place/moved on with our lives.

My place had a positive review before I booked and had 25+ reviews. My issues was the noise at night and I left a couple of days early. When it came time to do reviews I was not going to do one at first but once she left one I decided to since I had no clue what she said.

I booked it last minute and the owner informed me that he was in Australia on vacation. The key was left in a hidden spot and I guess he thought the roommate was out of town too because he never told him.

Me and the other guy were both pissed at the owner after but had a good laugh about it

I have stayed in Italy and Spain with no issues. Just spent a week at a house in the states that was an unbelievable value for the $15/night I was paying. Little sketchy staying out in the country, but the owner was cool as shite and super communicative. I love the AirBNB experience.

That said, every time I stay in a hotel, I appreciate how convenient and seamless the experience is.

I will say I get nervous staying in a private room in someone else's house knowing I planning on drinking. I try to limit myself, but a hotel I can walk in shite faced and still find my room to pass out in. Someones house is different

wow, sharing a place with some stranger, and actually paying decent prices??????

It's 2017, not 1980

You can rent a whole condo, townhouse, etc for the prices i have seen on airbnb per night.

I have had positive experiences in Europe and for ~ the same cost, the amount of space you get in an AirBnB compared to some tiny hotel rooms is great...

I've never had a terrible experience, but I had something similar to yours. I don't like their definition of "entire place". I stayed somewhere that ended up being a renovated garage storage room in San Francisco. I had to walk through the actual front door of their house, through the foyer, and through the garage to get to it. It didn't have AC, like many places in San Francisco, but the window opened to the closed garage - not to the outdoors. So I was miserably hot.

Then their washer/dryer was located right outside the door to my place, so I woke to them doing laundry/talking on the phone right outside my door at like 7am.

Edit - I don't stay in AirBnb that is a room inside someone's home. It would make me too uncomfortable.

Have you asked the owner "Host" about the AC? European AC/ heat can be different?

I'm pretty sure AC is a pretty big deal, does it not have other reviews? I'd think Airbnb will reimburse you fairly.

I doubt they are great at it, but as a Host I know that Airbnb asks that any amenities be listed in pictures. So something more rare like AC in Rome i'd think Airbnb would want a picture to justify it.

Take good pictures of your place in Rome, to justify that you didn't have the AC. You don't want the Host to go and get a window AC unit once you leave and say it was there the whole time.

we had a place booked in Aruba but we couldnt check in until the second day, so we rented this small house for the first night to hunker down in. We checked in and were hanging out, and the door opens and another couple walks in. Neither spoke english ( they were from venezuela IIRC). Apparently there was an upstairs that the owners also rent that wasn't mentioned in the listing. Wasn't a huge deal but was a little uncomfortable with the language barrier and all. My g/f had been walking around naked slightly before that (it was hot)
