Well, we're off. Travel advisories for terrorism and COVID in Germany. Yeah I know, in a perfect world, but here we go. Guess if we live to tell the tale we'll have a great trip report.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Based on Modena. Hit up Bobbio and Bologna for day trips. I’ll post a full review soon. Was one of the best trips I’ve had.

Just got back from Ireland and Germany early this week.

Couple things for those going:

1. Lots of rumors of the Christmas markets in Germany being shut down any day.
2. They do not joke about the masks....I was wearing my regular cloth masks I do here, and more than a couple times got asked by train staff, hotels, etc to put on the PP90 masks.
3. Get to the airport early on your return ....longest lines I have ever been in. They must have a staff shortage like us.
4. Carried a copy of my vaccine card and my drivers license and never had an issue except most of the time, they were like, oh america, come in.

But beside that, went all over with no issues.

PP90 masks

This is interesting, definitely not the case in Switzerland. Plenty of paper or cloth masks, was curious about that before I got here. Also plenty of improperly worn masks.

In Switzerland, everything is normal, just need an app for a check on vaccine status otherwise everything is fine

Yeah, normal. Just an app for your experimental injection.

Greetings from Ground Zero! Made it to Berlin in one piece. Will post some updates on things you might find interesting along the way and a trip report God willing.

But, here’s what we went through.

Man, I’ve had FAR worse experiences getting through to Europe.

ENTRY

In Nashville they looked at my passport, vaccine card and print out of PCR Test. That was it until arriving at the hotel other than presenting passports in Amsterdam.

TRIP

Flew Delta. Plane was fairly full. Served fairly decent meals and had liquor (wine or beer)with dinner. Ain’t gonna lie..having a mask on for ~14 hours sucked but such is the price of admission. Plane was fairly full. Maybe 80% or so.

DOCUMENTS

Things are changing daily here. Hotel had some one check our vaccines card and ID only. No PCR Test proof. We got a wristband to walk around freely without further being asked.

Note that as of TODAY, Germany is requiring everyone to now have the QR Code as proof of vaccination. Viking is helping us get that. The other thread is correct in having a local doctor or pharmacist assist.

OTHER

Stores and restaurants are open despite all this. So are the local Christmas markets we’ve been told. People walking around, in bars, restaurants as if no pandemic.

Some of this sucks and may change but hey we’re traveling again.

Nap time now.

EDIT:

Markets open. Vibrant nightlife. Got in a restaurant with just a picture of my vaccine card. Empty restaurant. Could tell he was really nervous. Asked for cash. Enforcement is real here. Have my EU Certificate tonight now.

I’m debating on pulling the plug on Italy. Not sure I want to be masked up the whole time.

Anyone have any idea on how stringent they enforce masks outdoors there?

All of my Italy stuff is refundable. I fly into London before connecting to Rome. Do we think any countries will be light on restrictions? I can get to Sweden nonstop for $120.
