And read the fine print because most trip insurance is a scam.

Through Chase Sapphire Reserve. Cancellations due to sickness or illness including Covid. Based on you charging your trip through the card. Only way to go in this environment for expensive trips.

On a plane right now, a week in Switzerland, guess we can get in and out before the Swiss do anything. But a lady next to me has been hacking a lung for an hour and it is really annoying.

Can’t imagine why anyone would’ve spent the money to go over during these times. I have friends living over there and it’s completely fuked beyond comprehension for everyone. Waste of money and bad judgement IMO. Good luck

I just got home last week after spending 10 days in Europe and everything was absolutely fine and I had a great time. Luckily I was leaving Austria right before they started locking things down but I got to do everything I wanted to do and nothing was closed down anywhere I went.

I didn't buy trip insurance, but all the flights I booked had waived change fees and had free cancellations for the hotels & airbnbs I booked. If you try to wait until everything is completely "normal" and certain, then it may be years before you go anywhere international again.

In Switzerland, everything is normal, just need an app for a check on vaccine status otherwise everything is fine. No mask requirements in many places bc of vaccine. Also that r/t flight was like 480, great time to travel.

We went to Paris last month. Had a great time. Minimal lines and it wasn’t super crowded. Had my vaccine app which was checked at most places, but wasn’t an issue and we had a great time. People were super nice and glad we came.

I’m actually thinking of avoiding Europe next year when there will be a deluge of travelers.

No crowds? I’d go in a heartbeat if I could.

I've got the Maldives, Netherlands and Greece booked for May 2022. I'm thinking the Maldives and Greece may be fine but if the spoke doesn't slow I could see the EU go back into a lockdown.

My wife and I have been in London (with a trip up to Birmingham to attend a EPL game) since Friday and have worn our masks once since we walked out of Heathrow. The one time was When we walked inside the Randox Health Clinic to drop off our Day 2 Covid tests. The UK is fully open and we’ve had a wonderful trip.

I’d say 20-30% of people and 30-40% on public transport are wearing masks voluntarily, but we have gotten no dirty looks or comments, or anything of the sort.

If other places are shut down and you still want to get overseas I’d highly recommend the UK/London.

I can understand that feeling. Little harsh maybe and perhaps not fully founded in what's actually going on in some of these countries however.

In our case, part of our trip was a milestone birthday present for our daughter that got cancelled last April and rescheduled. Second, not getting any younger and I'm done waiting. I have to do some tests and a procedure in mid December when I get back, so who knows what the outcome might be. I want to travel while I can. Done waiting.

Not an ideal scenario, but we're all triple vaxxed and am just going to leave this in God's hands. I could get the 'Vid or die in a car wreck here just as easily. Don't forget what we've been living through the past year and half. Certainly worse case rates than what these countries are spiking at now.

Leave tomorrow. Trust me, I read about every foreign article on the places we're visiting (Germany, Czech Republic and Poland). And there are some cancellations (like Christmas Markets in certain German States). Our cruise was rerouted yesterday from certain cities along the Elbe to others. I fully trust Viking as they're a stellar consumer organization in my book. IF they say there'll be other markets, other experiences, I fully believe them. And I believe they'd cancel us if they felt there was some addition risk. They've fully vetted these decisions. Some place we're going along the way are open for business. Krakow seems very doable right now. So does Prague. I know someone there and get periodic updates. Only issue is presentation of a vaccination card. Their Christmas markets this year will be smaller in size due to social distancing and you'll have to provide proof of vaccine. No big deal.

The time of year. Less crowds. The feelings you get of local business owners glad to have you. I'll take the chances.

Good to know, all of the flghts I have currently are award tickets and I'm pretty sure the Maldives/Greece would stay open at all costs. Only thing I would need to change would be my MLE-AUH-AMS on Etihad

Some places maybe but Croatia wasn't packed this summer and you didn't have to do any bullshite anywhere. Outside of wait staff wearing masks it was basically 2019.

Headed to Switzerland, Austria and Germany with family over Christmas…could be a bumpy road ahead. I have no intention of changing course but we’ll see if others do.

This is in the FWIW category.

Friend just landed in Greece today and had this experience:

So you’re gonna love this. We thought we had all our bases covered with AA and British Airways (passports, vaccine certificates, verifly…etc). BA docs showed final destination at Athens. Then as we land and are going through immigration they ask us for our QR code. We show them the one we had and guy is like “no for entry into Greece, your airline should have told you….” Pulled our our our vaccine cert and Then he says “you must go this way” and we head to a special line. Two nurses there take our passports, Swab our noses and take our cell numbers. I ask “what’s next?”, my nurse says it is ok, you will get sms from us in20 minutes, and they lead us to new line. We’ll we’re the only people in the new line and we can see massive line on other side from our flight and others queuing to get through. As we’re 1st in the special line, dude calls us over looks at our passports and says “welcome to Greece”. ??. Not having our ?? together saved us a 45 minute wait ??. Never got an sms from them so all must be good….,

Looked it up. Not sure how a US Citizen would get one unless it's issued in the country you start in. Once you get the QR Code it's good in any EU Country. I've read where you'd have get like a pharmacist or doctor to enter you into the system.

QR Code

Switzerland has two QR Codes, one for entry and one for covid certificate for dining, transit, museums. Although we entered Schengen Zone first through Amsterdam and noone asked for our entry qr code, and we never have presented it... the covid cert is easy, check the qr code on our app and check name on passport. No masks required restaurants or museums due to covid certificate. Noone has checked the covid certificate on public transit and we have taken trains from Zurich to Lucerne and Lucerne to Engelberg.

In Italy when they asked for that we showed them our vaccine card since we couldn’t get that. Worked everywhere.

My biggest take away was everyone from the airlines to immigration to wait staff are kind of just winging it.
