I’ve got a trip to Spain in early June and while I keep telling myself it should all be over by now…I also realize that I have been saying that for almost two years. Really don’t want to drop the coin to travel to closed countries, testing/vaccine demagoguery, and masks to sit outside on a park bench.

What a stupid, downward spiral we’ve all gotten sucked into.

I will be in Spain this same exact time frame. My wife and I our crossing our fingers continuously..

I'm going to Spain in mid July. .. hope we still get to go

Just did 24 hours in London. No masks enforced and no one asked for our Covid cards. The quarantine requirement is bullshite so don’t let that stop you if you’re considering coming. Christmas markets, caroling, and cheer are definitely out here.

Now heading to Italy for 10 days so hoping it’s more of the same.

The Netherlands will go into a strict lockdown over the Christmas and New Year period to try to contain the highly- contagious Omicron coronavirus variant, Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Saturday.

All non-essential shops and services, including restaurants, hairdressers, museums and gyms will be closed from Sunday until Jan. 14. All schools will be shut until at least Jan. 9.

So another month closed, assuming they don’t extend it for just 2 more weeks to keep the curve flattened

Seriously feels like twilight zone again.

Update from London;

Got my PCR test to fly home today and tested positive. Now spending over $3k additional as I’m forced to stay and isolate at this hotel for 10 days. Ordering Uber ears every meal and I have the sniffles and a cough.

All that said I’m happy I lived my life

Oh man. So sorry to hear that. Any idea where you caught it? That is the greatest fear of traveling right now. Hope you recover soon. Any chance you had trip insurance or made charges through a card like Chase Sapphire? We’d researched that previously and learned it would cover situations like that.

Side note: Tell us about your experience and trip other than that. Did you have a good time?

Quick update on Italy.

Been in Rome since Saturday and everything continues to be full go here. Yesterday I did a “golf cart” tour with My Best Tour Trip Advisor to see the highlights yesterday.

Today I did an in depth tour at the Vatican with The Roman Guy. Great experience and the light crises make walking around very pleasant with a guide.

Going to Vivaldi Four Seasons concert at St Paul’s within the walls(a church) tonight.

I’ve gone 1/3 on fine dining but hit on all the casual sandwich, gelato and pizza spots. I’ll edit to add names Later.

Masks are enforced inside but not outside(yet).

Definitely glad we are here. Minimal crowds and have not had trouble getting into any restaurants.

The government is supposed to meet on 12/23 to discuss additional requirements but it sounds like worst case they will make an outdoor mask mandate. There is technically one here in Rome in high trafficked areas but it’s not enforced at all so I’m not worried about that.
We are leaving for Florence tomorrow.

I’m not the picture guy so I don’t have many pics but here are a few. The pork became a great sandwich. The Fiat Popemobile below is the one Pope John Paul II was riding at the time of the attempted assassination.

Great update! Thanks for sharing and hope you're having a great time all in all.

This thread has some great information on testing to get back into the US. An antigen test suffices. As noted, we had ours done in our hotel by someone that came to test. Maybe you'll find similar. Not that hard. Bank on maybe 60-90 Euros, maybe less.

Arrived in London yesterday. Got our day 2 test at Halo at the airport. Ran into a bunch of gamecocks who must have been on the same flight.

Mrs Bok tested positive on day 2 test. Looks like we traveled across the pond to lock ourselves in a hotel room. No symptoms for either of us - I’m sure I must have it too. But yeah - I don’t regret taking the trip.

Took her for a rapid test. Hoping maybe it’s a false positive.

Just got back from a week in Ireland. (11th - 18th)
No issues.
However, as soon as we left they dropped the closing time from midnight to 8. That really only would have affected some late dinners we had since it gets dark at 5.

But driving on the wrong side of the road is awesome, especially when there is barely anyone else on it.
Seriously drove the ring of Kerry with only seeing 1 tour bus.

Man, sorry to hear that. Hoping for you it was maybe a false positive and you can eventually get to enjoy some of the city. Keep us posted.

This is what I am nervous about for our return back home to the states. I have had no issues traveling throughout the pandemic as I have dual citizenship and the European Vax pass, but if we test positive next week to head home, I'm gonna be big mad.
