Anyone ever been to Albania? I won a stay at an Albanian resort at a Charity Event.

I have heard of Baws from here going to European cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Rome but not much that I recall on Albania.

I was invited by a co-worker tonight to a Fundraiser that he is involved with and anyone that donated $500, which we kind of felt obligated to after not paying for tickets to the event and enjoying nice food drinks, got to draw a prize envelope from a massive basket.

Others won custom gift bags and show tickets in their envelope. We received a certificate for a 7-Day stay at a Resort in Albania.

Anyone ever been to Albania before on vacation and is there enough things to do around the Plazhi San Pietro that we should explore Airfare options, etc. and explore using it this Spring?

If so, can you get by with just English?

Thanks in advance.

Can't help there we stayed in Orikum.

IIRC there is a big international airport near there. Tirano (sp?) is the biggest city in Albania which is where the big airport is.

Yeah, but you won't find as much English there as the majority of Europe.

You will need cash, it isn't really a card country but it is easier in the large cities I would expect. Where we stayed cards outside the hotel were basically useless. It does have a moderate amount of crime but if you are comfortable in a big US city it isn't much different.

Gorgeous beaches and water.

I've read that they have bandits in the countryside. I don't know if that's true.

I have friends that went and stayed at some plush resort on the water. They loved it.

True for the middle of the country where OP will be but in the northern part is is mostly Catholic dating back to the HRE and in the southern part there is a lot of Orthodox, I assume since it borders Greece. A large part of the Islamists are in name only and aren't practicing.

Like any country particularly ones that aren't major American allies, I would suggest checking the State Department for travel alerts and logging your trip in their STEP program. We have never had an incident anywhere but I log trips to almost all countries just in case.

Someone mentioned bandits in the hills. They are mostly associated with drugs/cartels (they grow a lot of pot there) but like a lot of countries staying in and around the resort cities removes a lot of that danger. Albania is a country I wouldn't rent a car and run off to uncharted areas for a hike and picnic.

I think the wildest story about Albania is the country falling into civil unrest in the 90s because everyone was involved in pyramid schemes.

Damn I thought Albania was over by Ukraine for some reason, I had no idea it was between Croatia and Greece. Or maybe it’s the whiskey talking idk. That would be an interesting place to combine with Greece or Croatia if you are hesitant, if not it has to be beautiful considering the location.

Montenegro as well. There's always the next it place if they stay stable and safe enough for tourism.

Have not been, but we talked about it while traveling the area (Croatia, Montenegro & Bosnia) this spring. I would not hesitate. It looks beautiful, just like the rest of the region.

Yes! Went to Vlore and Tirana. The beaches in Vlore were amazing and the food was good! Tomatoes out of this world, fresh cheese, just excellent all around. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Always wanted to go. Wife (no pics) won't so probably never.

However, from tourists I've met in Europe that have been, they have done nothing but rave about the landscapes, the people, the food, the prices.

I would in a heartbeat personally!

FYI, we follow a great YouTuber, LifeStyle Hal! Check out that video.
