Any tips for attending games at Rocky Top?

Planning to go to Knoxville this year. Spending a couple nights in Nashville before the game and a few nights in Pigeon Forge after.
I’m looking for recommendations on things to do, food to eat, and tips for scoring good deals on tickets to the game, tailgates, etc. Just me and my gf, both in our 30’s, no kids.
I have never been to Nashville. I went to Knoxville once with Tiger Band (meaning I experienced the game but nothing else), and I haven’t been to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge since I was maybe twelve.

That is one of my favorite SEC road trips because we like to go hiking in the Smoky Mountains.

are you asking for ideas in Nashville, Knoxville or pigeon forge? There’s tons of info on this board for all three.
Briefly:
Nashville, stay downtown. Plenty of music, food, drink, activity options
Knoxville, I assume that game weekends are up for grabs but probably a real good time. I would not wait much longer to make arrangements. That will be fun Knoxville is beautiful

I would like to know about tips for getting tickets off the secondary market. I am not a season ticket holder for LSU and typically buy tickets the day of outside the stadium most games. I don’t trust my ability to do that at another stadium. I have never tried to purchase tickets to another big SEC game, so I fear getting scammed (like I have in New Orleans).
I also would like information about tailgates I should visit, sites I should see pre-game, when I should leave Nashville to get there, etc.
I will also take recs for Nashville and Gatlinburg. I already have accommodations secured.

Vols tickets are thru Ticketmaster. Perfectly safe and secure. Since all tix are mobile transfer if it’s thru Ticketmaster you’re good to go. I would not recommend doing this outside the stadium on game day

Be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions that time of year. In higher elevations the weather can go from mild to deadly pretty quickly

Any tips for gameday like where to park, where to eat before the game, traditions I shouldn’t miss?

Park downtown, shuttles run or you can walk. Plenty of quality restaurants as well, I like Cafe4 and Not Watsons in Market Square.

Knoxville - Calhoun's On The River for the view. Haven't eaten at that location in a while but the last couple of times we've eaten at the other locations (Turkey Creek, Kingston Pike);the quality of the food had gone down.
Ye Olde Steakhouse on US 441/Chapman Highway is legendary in the area but isn't centrally located for the game. Litton"s in Fountain City has great burgers but again is a bit of a drive from downtown/campus.
Nashville - Country Music Hall of Fame and Ryman. Johnny Cash museum is well done too. Depending on your plans (hard to make since kickoff won't be set just a week or two before the game) I'd say try to get tickets for the Friday night Opry and then get up Saturday morning and make the drive to Knoxville.
Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area - skip it and spend time in the park. That late in the year most of the leaves will have already turned and dropped so crowds should be less. As others have said he prepared for multiple weather types. I have heard that the aquarium in Gatlinburg is nice. Dollywood will already be decorated and open for their Christmas festival.

Knoxville has always confused me in terms of its pregames. Most schools have big parking lots or fields or a bar strip/area where people gather, but Tennessee doesn't really seem to have any of those. And only a handful of people can tailgate on boats. So where do 100k go to tailgate in downtown Knoxville?

When we were there we went to Stock & Barrel in a pretty cool area. Had good burgers and other places scattered around some green space.

In my experience (wife is Knoxville native/UT alum/season ticket holder) it gets spread out all around campus and the surrounding area and isn't in on concentrated area.
Some people are at World's Fair Park. Others in the parking lots along Neyland Drive along the river. The Circle Park area of campus is usually covered up with big tailgates.

Yea, every time i've been, its been all over the place. It isn't a great campus for tailgating just due to how uneven it is. The river area is really cool and there is plenty of it still in different areas, just less concentrated as you said.
We've always just gone downtown or hit the bars up on the Cumberland strip. Always been a good time. One of my favorite away game trips every time I go.

Agreed. Our group of 3 got burned by a scalper with legit-looking counterfeit tickets outside the stadium.
