Business class is the shite but I usually have a pretty simple rule for travel or doing things in general.
It shouldn't take me longer to get somewhere (and back) than the time I spend there if I can help it. And this itinerary is a self inflicted violation of that. Of course, everyone is different.

See, I've only flown nine segments of long-haul biz, so maybe that's why it still seems special to me. I really enjoy the fact that my phone cannot ring, and I won't get emails unless I specifically want to. I'm away from it all and can truly relax while people wait on me to bring me food and drink.
That can all be accomplished at your hotel, especially in the GD Maldives or Santorini. To go out of your way & make 2 connections to visit an airport bar & sit in a reclining chair and have a waitress bring you a reheated meal is insane. I've flown long haul business class plenty and am a miles/points addict just to be able to do it, but it's about 1/100th the experience of the actual vacation.

That itinerary gave me anxiety.
You should drop Amsterdam and Athens. Add a night in the Maldives and then add a couple days in another Greek isle. Mykonos is fun and pretty close to Santorini, but there are plenty of other good ones.
International business class is great, but it is great when comparing it to other flights. Spending the day at the airport sucks when compared to spending the day in Santorini or the Maldives.
I would also highly suggest forking up some extra money to knock off a couple legs of those flights. That will end up saving a lot of time and reduce the chance that you end up having to spend the night at the airport. Spending the night at the airport is ok (still annoying) when you go somewhere for a week or two, but it ruins the trip if you allocate 2-3 nights everywhere and one of those nights gets taken away due to travel issues.

With the taxes and fees being so high in the Maldives I'm considering just paying cash for our room there and saving points for another time.
What does this mean? If taxes and fees are expensive, that would be more reason to use points. The Marriott’s out there have some of the highest point/dollar redemption rates in the world.

Most of these people have never flown international business class and have no appreciation for the fact that it is, in fact, fun.
It’s certainly fun by comparison to coach, but being stuck on a plane for 8-14 hours for me is always an exercise in making the best of a bad situation. There is certainly a novelty aspect that i can get excited about. For example I’ve never flow the airbus 380 and would be genuinely excited to fly on one. But absent having my little Ned serviced by a team of Singapore airline stewardesses in first class, I would never rather be in a plane versus being at the destination.
To the OP, this isn’t the trip I would plan but certainly sounds like a jet set adventure and hope y’all the best. My honeymoon was probably the best trip/experience of my life.

If I have to burn 180,000 Marriott points plus $1500 in taxes and fees, it may mke more sense to save the points for use at places with lower taxes and pay the $2500 for the room. Would help towards status requalification.

But why?

Aren’t the “taxes and fees” for the Maldives the cost of the seaplane transfer? You can’t avoid that and unable to pay with points.

To me, this seems like the actual travel in itself is part of the honeymoon which I understand. I completely disagree with it as far as what I would like but there definitely seems to be an emphasis on just hitting specific spots for the sake of hitting different spots. I know people who go to Wyoming just so they can say they've gone to all 500 states..I get it I just don't "get it".
That being said, with so little time in each place I might pick like one thing to do and one place to eat and thats it. Leave some time for exploring, talking to locals, immersing yourself in that place at that time with that person.
Pack smart with clothing that can be worn in varying temps, find local washaterias, when you find snacks you like somewhere buy alot of it so you wont be stuck somewhere starving, make sure you have refillable water bottles with you, pack a lightweight small collapsable backpack and try to take alot of pictures to remember what happened where when you look back on this trip for years to come.

We went to the Maldives last January for eight days. Flew in a QSuite from Chicago to Doha to Male, then a seaplane to the resort. The flights are marathons, the time change is radical, and the jet lag is palpable. It took my body a couple of days to adjust, so that I could fully enjoy the natural splendor of the Maldives. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The Indian Ocean is transparent and warm as a bath. We stayed in an overwater bungalow at Joali, which was exceptional.
In my view, your itinerary is too ambitious and crowded for such a short period of time. The flights will exhaust you and tax your body, increasing the likelihood of illness (and conflict with your spouse). You also expose yourself to the risk of delays which ruin the entire trip. But, it is your life and your honeymoon. I hop you have fun.

If you're a blogger trying to prove a point, then sure -- do this trip. It looks like something Ben Schlappig (one mile at a time) would blog about. Really and truly, you got the idea for this trip from reading airline points blogs. Nobody else would do something this dumb unless he is getting paid to write about it. And I say that from the perspective of someone who does dumb multi-stop itineraries myself. I'm going to London for Christmas and Madeira for New Year's -- which, I may find out, might also be a really dumb idea with the potential for lockdowns and quarantines.
If you're really on your honeymoon -- just take her to the Maldives. It's what she wants! Don't be so damn selfish trying to fill in your pushpin world traveler map. She might be telling you it sounds cool and all -- and while it does sound cool, it also sounds like a completely fricked up idea. Listen to what people are saying on here. Even better, show this thread to your bride.
You're not laying on the beach at Myrtle Beach with nothing else to do but drink beer, play putt-putt and go to all you can eat seafood buffets. You're in the freaking Maldives. The temperature is between 82-84 every single day. The water is crystal clear.
Learn to scuba dive. Go fishing. Look at the stars you've never been able to see. Bang your bride on the deck, on the beach, in the infinity pool, in the lagoon.. Do yoga. Sail a hobie cat. Watch a movie on the beach. Have lunch with your girl on a deserted sand bar in the middle of the ocean -- bang her again. It's your HONEYMOON!!!
The Maldives in amazing. I'm a person who always has to be busy and have something planned. I was never bored and never stressed. We loved it so much we're going back in March.
Look, the QSuites were great. It was as good a flight as I've ever had -- second only to Emirates First on the A380. Flying first or business is wonderful because you feel your trip starts when they bring you that first glass of champagne. Even so, it makes the trip better -- don't confuse a great flight with the real vacation you're having at your destination.

What did you do on your honeymoon? “FOUR COUNTRIES IN TEN DAYS!!”
But what did you do? “Slept and ate.”
While I’m sure the OP isn’t dumb this is the dumbest itinerary I’ve ever seen.

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon I’m the farthest thing from a traveler but the flight to the Maldives was miserable it took us probably over 30 hours (including layover)from IAH to MLE you’ll need a couple days just to recover we stayed 8 days and it was an awesome time. My advise would be to stay at the Maldives for the entire honeymoon just because it’s such a chore to get there. Spend some time and enjoy it.

If the situation doesn't start to improve in Europe soon we're probably going to stay an extra day in the Maldives and then change our Etihad flights from AMS to ATH and bounce around the islands.

Um
Athens and the Islands are also in Europe.
But yeah, I would definitely do that if you won't just spend almost all your time in the Maldives (which is what I would do).
