Which adds to the frustration. They know it’s always windy, but can’t find a solution to not have the main access point shut down and half the runs closed every other day.

50 and this is the first attempt at skiing? I almost recommend to just skip i

I agree with PearlyBaker, 50 is a fine time to start skiing. I was talking to a guy on a chairlift last year, mid-60s, who still skis 100 days per year. Do I recommend that you start ripping groomers and vaulting cliffs? No. But there is no reason why you cannot cruise down some greens. Skiing is as difficult as you make it. There is no time that is too late to pick up what could be a life passion.

Checking in. I've taken the touring skis out for two small skins with my new doggo. Getting her used to the snow and skis more than actually making turns. Theres snow up high in Jackson Hole. I've seen plenty of people out finding some really good snow. I'm focused on my endurance training over going skiing in October.
Got some lofty goals for myself this year, and the near future. A summer season of climbing, and alpine adventures has me ready for more ski mountaineering progression this year. Going for some tall peaks in the Tetons and the Wind Rivers.
Let's hope for a deep (and stable) year!

bamafan425 - have you ever skied The Skillet on Mt. Moran? For some reason or another, I'd really like to give that one a go one day. However, on my trips to J Hole, it is always difficult to (1) find willing co-participants, and (2) take a few days to do it.

Thanks guys for the advise.
My Austrian friend and I have been friends since 1998. I have vacationed in Austria almost every year since 2009, mostly in the spring/summer months.
In the years coming up, I think that we will have a lot of opportunity to do some skiing in Austria and the US so I decided to give it a try. Fieberbrunn/Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Leogang is the largest connected ski area in Austria. How can I pass up the opportunity to at least give it a try?
By no means do I plan on doing any thing other than beginner this year.
If all goes well, I will come back to post some photos.
Thanks again.

Going to Whistler in mid January. One of the flights I’ve been tracking has been going up and down between the same two prices for the last month. Should I wait for the next price drop and book then? I’ve read prices are best around 70 Days in advance. Is that accurate?
We decided on Whistler also in mid January. 13-18. Flying out of Nola and best I saw was about $385 so we grabbed it.

If anyone is headed to UT to ski and wants to grab a drink/dinner with another LSU fan, let me know. Just relocated to SLC area about 6 months ago.

I have not. My two partners attempted it last year, but ran into a touchy snow pack heading up the last 1000ft. It is definitely on the list. Such a beautiful mountain, and a classic line.
We all lined our schedules up to have the same days off this winter, so we are hoping to tick quite a few off the list this year.

I thought this was now true for St Anton since they added the Flexenbahn lift which gets you over to Lech? I'm heading over there for New Year's and I'm pumped to get some skiing in

That could now be true. When they added the Tirol S lift to Reiterkogl they were advertising as the largest. But now I don't see that on the website.
Thanks for the info.

Well lucky for me! I'm 50 and we're going to Breckenridge right before Christmas -- me, husband, 27 yo & 22 yo sons and 18 yo dtr. First time any of us will have been and this was the only time that we could coordinate school/work schedules. Excited!

What's the best way to get to vail from denver? Is renting a car the only option?
Posted on 11/5/19 at 5:54 am to The Funnie Five
Their are shuttle buses, too.

Rent car or shuttle.

Epic and several other companies offer a shuttle - I would check into that. There are new traction laws on i70 now, so you would have to rent a 4WD and ensure it was all weather or snow tires. And if you aren't confident in driving in potential snow storm or blizzard, for the rest of our sake - shuttle all the way. 70 has become a nightmare.
