I'm not a fan either. Seems like no matter how much snow they get within 15 minutes it is back to being dust on crust.

I think it really depends on your skiing ability. I find that if you are beginner-intermediate, the Basin runs out of terrain, especially groomed terrain, quickly. Even advanced skiers can run out of options. But if you are truly able to ski pretty much anything a mountain can throw at you and you want to push yourself into steeper/tighter/more technical terrain, then the Basin delivers.

Look in the trees of Pallavicini and the Alleys to find small straightline chutes and cliffs, such as Land of Gnarnia, Turbo/West Turbo, Gauthier, etc. Hike the East Wall to experience some big mountain lines in an avalanche controlled environment. Plus now they have the Steep Gullies accessible to also fill your adventure skiing appetite. Hit Montezuma if you want some open bowl skiing.

I will never tire of their steep tree skiing, hike-to terrain, and thousands of terrain features hidden all over the mountain to play on and jump off. There have been days where I have ridden nothing but Pallavicini Lift...and they were some of the best days skiing of my life.

Plus you don't have to take 2-3 lifts to get to the good terrain like other resorts (looking at you Breck). The base area starts at 10,780ft, and you can ski from the parking lot to the best lift on the mountain (Pallavicini). That alone makes it a winner for me.

Also, Wrangler and Sundance are the best green runs in Summit County, possibly Colorado.

I am expert level, but I snowboard. I love going through trees. Maybe we just didn't explore enough. As someone said earlier, the lifts are slow as hell, and the runs are short. We went from top to bottom a few times (don't remember any lift names) and just kinda gave up on it. Went to Keystone and had a great end to the day.

East Wall!!! I think this has a lot to do with it, but my perspective of ABasin is rooted back in the 90s right after the Vail corp started buying resorts and "commercializing" them.

As a young guy who considered that just awful, the Basin was where we would go because of its "Independent" status. IOW, it didn't "sell-out".

And there was just something cool about locals having a place that was "theirs". To a young man who was taking time to "find myself" such sentiments appealed to me. I just remember the good times spent with friends...it was just a party, whether on the mountain or in the lot...

SO, I could see someone coming from a resort with faster lifts, more groomed trails, etc coming to the Basin and getting on those slow arse lifts, not knowing where to play on the mountain and saying this sucks.

Trip cut short

Been at copper since saturday. All good until last night. Started with bad cough and this morning severe shortness of breath. Went to walk in clinic, o2 sat at 77%. They gave me o2 and a chest xray. Told me it was high altitude pulmonary edema. Once they got my o2 sat up they sent me back down to denver.

Been skiing a long time with no issues. Glad i went to clinic early.

We were at Copper last weekend. It did not stop snowing. Such a great trip. A girl in our group did get altitude sickness though. She had a resting O2 sat of 74%. I gave her acetazolamide and she hit the O2 bar and was able to tough it out but couldn't make it out on the slopes with us after day 1

Cant get there if you aren't already there.

I70 closed between Vail and Frisco due to a couple of avalanches (including one that hit the Conaco station at Copper). The road to/from Leadville is also closed for the same reason.

Well this might be the first time I am not going up the hill due to too much snow. I hope everything is opened back up by Sunday but they are getting another foot tonight. More early next week.

Epic rafting season coming

I was in Ogden and the snow was heavier than the usual Utah fluff. How about in Keystone?
