What’s the best/cheapest way to purchase Microsoft Word?

The laptop I have doesn’t have MS Word installed already, and I’ve never had a computer without it already on it before.
Quick search looks like $150 for Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PP), but figured there’d have to be better deals/options out there

If you use Gmail is there any reason you can't use Google Docs?

Libre Office Suite is 100% compatible and free.

Check on Kinguin. It's listed for $35 there.

My company offers microsoft office for something like $20 for employees. Might check with your work.

Why do you need word? If it's an infrequent need you can access Word/Excel/Powerpoint free over the web LINK There are some drawbacks to this version, like since you don't have the actual app, double clicking on a Word file doesn't open it. But it does give you free access to Word.
There also are free alternatives like Libre Office LINK / These tend to still have some compatibility issues, so if it's for business and you're sending Word and Excel files to customers, I'd recommend sticking with Microsoft Office.

Same here. Last time I tried an open source alternative I had too many issues with formatting when someone sent me a MS Word doc. The online storage makes the subscription worth it.

If you have an Outlook or Hotmail email addy you already have the apps available to you for free.

the online apps suck for doing any real work. i avoid them at all costs because its frustrating to look for a missing feature you've used for years only to realize you accidently opened the web version by mistake.

Is this site really legit? It looks shady as hell, but I just got a new laptop and it didn't come with MS Office preinstalled. I really only n use Word at home and would rather not spend $100/yr on yet another subscription service

I have used them for windows for previous builds. They have several office products to choose from.

The keys are legitimate, but the retail sale of them is not, because they all come from group licenses. When you buy a key it will probably activate just fine. The risk is that Microsoft may deactivate the key at any time. I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't go after these shady resellers. People buy these keys in good faith, and Microsoft may pull the rug out from under them. Here's an article that explains it in detail:
