re: Not excited about future Pixel 3 renderings (and rumors). Dare I say Apple X2?

I wouldn't buy the pixel 3xl because of the notch, not because a fractionally larger chin created due to having front facing speakers.
Any phone with a notch is stupid. Sorry, just is. It looks stupid for 90% of your usage and when you actually go to watch it in landscape the notch either goes away completely (making your bezel as large as non-notchless phones) or the video has a giant notch in it that is distracting. Easily the dumbest trend in smartphones.
I would get the pixel 3 though if I was in the market because I belieze its bezels are supposed to be much closer to the pixel 2xl than the pixel 2.

What would it take for you to switch back to the Apple ecosystem?

How much data do you need? There are a lot of prepaid carriers that are just as affordable as Project Fi.

I know, that's a ton of people.
Every child/HS/college kid I see has a damn pop socket anymore.

I must be in the very small minority, but I don't think it looks all that bad, but I also don't really care what it looks like. I've never bought a phone for looks. I've always bought them for functionality first and foremost.

Definitely, but there are a small amount of people that like notches. Granted most are Apple fanboys that like what Apple tells them to like but still.

I think their looks/design are about the only thing anymore that separates them, they all perform and do about the same stuff anymore.

Is Mint Mobile any good? I just read that they have a 2GB per month plan for $15/month.

I’ve never tried it but I think you have to buy in 3, 6, or 12 months although I’m not sure. Freedom Pop is another really low cost option. You can get a sim for $0.99 get a two week trial. If you buy more than 1 month at a time it gets pretty cheap for what you would need. These there’s Cricket and Straight Talk which I think are around the cost of Fi for what you would need.

2GB of data on Fi is $40 and you get any unused data back off your bill. I pay about $23 a month. No one is touching that.
To my knowledge, no other carrier gives you your money back for unused data.

Project Fi is what will be keeping me with the Pixel line of phones. I travel and work internationally most of the year and my phone has worked everywhere I have been. I land at an airport, turn off airplane mode and am always greeted with a notification that says, "Google Fi has you covered here."
While I am in whatever country I am in calls to phones in that country are local calls and calls back to the states are .20 / min. However texting is free always and if someone from the states calls me it is just like they are calling me in the states. They are not charged for an international call.

Also, you will never pay more than $80.00 per month on Fi no matter how much data you use. They cap the billing at 6GB (the other $20 is what you pay every month for unlimited calls and texts). The only way the bill would be more than $80 is if you make international calls.

Fi is $20 for talk and text right? If you pay $23 that means you use 300MB of data. Freedom Pop has a free plan that gives you 200 minutes, 500 texts, and 500MB of data for free. You can upgrade to unlimited talk and text and 500MB for $10.99. They use Sprint or AT&T depending on what sim you choose.

No idea how you manage that. Streaming music in my car alone burns 4-5gb/mo

Right, I pay for 2GB so my base bill is $40 a month and then you get your money back for any unused data. My bill is always 23-27 depending on how much data I use.

I always make it a priority when I go out to not live on my phone. Home and work on wifi, and for music I have an ipod classic and then I download my main playlists on YouTube music to my 128GB SD card in my phone.
The only time I'm really using mobile data is those few times I check Twitter or TD or sports scores etc when I'm out and about.

Agreed. That plus audiobooks is almost all of my data usage.
Could always pre-load playlists from GPM into your phone. Though, you wouldn't get random songs, which I love to do.
