New Mac Pro starts at $5999

LINK
8 core xeon
32gb RAM
256gb SSD
Radeon Pro 580x
Is the base config.
They also announced a 32" 6k display for $4999.
Have to say, this is a new low, even from Apple, from a pricing perspective. That is horrifically bad specs for a $6k machine. I can only imagine the professional machine I could build for $6k.

Dont worry, they offer a VESA mount for only $200

That's insane.
Likely Xeon w-2145
32gb of ram is sub $200 nowadays
256gb SSD
Not familiar with the Pro 580x, but I assume it's a pretty beastly workstation card

It's not, it's a Radeon RX580 with pro stuff in it. A sub $200 video card as its base.

So if I want a new Mac with dual monitors it will set me back a cool $16,000 + tax?
I feel like I'm living in 1991 again and the MacIIfx just came out.
In other news I hear Fry's has 32" 4K displays on sale for $179.

Don't forget the extra charge for the software...

wonder how much they are charging for the 1.5 tb's of ram

I've never been in the market for a high-end workstation machine so I'm not sure how much of the price of this machine is Apple's typical markup, but it's always hilarious when some idiots online throw some consumer level parts together from Newegg and act like it's comparable.
Why would you spec out 64x4 when that MSI board only supports 128GB memory max?
The Mac Pros can support 8-12 times that much RAM depending on which model you get.
Sure this is overpriced and sure there will be some rich idiot who buys this crap and won't utilize any of its power but stop embarrassing yourselves by piling on comparing apples to oranges.

TigerDroppings could start its own hurricane model. Those hurricane threads would be awesome.

I could probably buy TD for what Apple is going to charge for 1.5tb of memory

you didn't get the 'ghetto' $5999 starter model with plastic trim and FM radio right? You opted to upgrade those to a decent machine first I hope.

64GB in 4 sticks, meaning 4x16gb sticks = 64 Gb total hence the $400 ish price tag
Obviously 4 64GB sticks would be well, well, well over $400-ish...
I was building a computer comparable to this entry model spec wise, upgrading where I could to stay under the $6k price point. Instead of 32 GB, I spec'd mine for 64 GB.
Probably best leave the insults to yourself next time around, scout.

From trash cans to cheese graters, is there anything a Mac can't do?
