After almost three weeks of availability, Apple's iOS 8 operating system is now installed on 47 percent of devices, according to new numbers posted on Apple's App Store support page for developers.

That marks a very slight increase in adoption over the past two weeks, as back on September 21, iOS 8 was installed on 46 percent of devices. 47 percent of iOS users continue to stick to iOS 7, possibly due to a number of bugs that have plagued the launch of iOS 8.

iOS 8 Adoption Stagnates Just Two and a Half Weeks After Launch

Apple can no longer claim 90% of their installed base or whatever is on the same version of the OS. Fragmentation!

I think a large part of the low adoption is the massive storage requirement. 16GB is completely inadequate anymore. It think it's ridiculous the baseline iphone didn't get 32gb.

I don't have enough storage room. And I don't have enough unimportant stuff to make it happen. Plus I love and have no major problems with 7. So yeah

Yeah I know a lot of people who didn't have the 6GB needed to download it and install it straight on the phone. That's ridiculous considering the update itself isn't even that large.

It's cause people think they don't have enough storage cause they're trying to do it over the air. All you have to do is hook up to iTunes and it will install. Regardless of how little storage you have.

Eta: Apple could easily remedy this by saying how to do it when you get the over the air storage message. Beyond me why they don't.
When you install on your phone it has to download then have a lot of free space to run when you use iTunes all that's done on the computer so free space on the phone isn't an issue

I'm not saying that's the only reason. No doubt the .1 gaffe was huge. But it's astonishing how many people hit the storage space issue don't know to just use iTunes. That's Apples fault.

Before Apple's iOS, it would have been unheard of for 47% of all devices/computers to have a major elective update installed within "almost three weeks" of launch.

You're right, there is no explanation to use iTunes. On top of that, I think most people don't want to bother with plugging their phone into the computer anymore. Isn't that the whole point of the cloud and the "ecosystem".

That's probably more to do with the facebook app than iOS8. Facebook app has always been shite.

That's actually not true. I connected to computer and I still had to delete 550 mb of data. I had 1.5 gb available

Good goalieing. It's been apples worst update yet. The other day my touch stopped working. Just couldn't do anything till the battery died. If my phone locks and for some reason went in horizontal mode for an app it locks it till I close the app.

Its fine and I know apple will fix it but the people trying to defend Apples buggiest update are funny.

I think one of the biggest reasons for the slow adoption is Apple's attempt to use iOS8's poor support and functionality on older handsets to push people to get new ones.

I think that the word has gotten around that if you have a device idler than a 5S or iPad Air, then you can expect a big slow down if you upgrade to iOS 8. In addition, since many of true new features of IOS 8 aren't supported on older handsets, what is supposed to be the motivation for upgrade?

It's mainly the storage and the bad press.

There are a ton of 16GB iDevices out there and asking those people to clear out a third or more of their storage for a software update is a bit much.

Personally, I wish Apple would have started the transition away from 16GB iOS devices with the iPhone 6 roll out. Instead, they inexplicably chose to eliminate the 32GB model.

I have a 4s and have no intention of ever upgrading to iOS 8. I'll get a new phone before I upgrade the OS. Last time I updated with an older model it made the phone run like garbage. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

The past two or three iterations of iOS haven't had the polish that many have come to expect from Apple. A lot of long time users are starting to treat x.0 releases like betas and are waiting until x.1.

IMO, Apple needs to focus on making a polished OS and stop trying to build health and newsstand apps.

I haven't updated yet cause of the storage issue and haven't bothered to plug into iTunes. One thing that really pissed me off was certain apps i use often now requiring iOS 8. The old version isn't available and doesn't work anymore. American Airlines app was one of them.

I hate 8. I didn't like 7 either. I have an Iphone 5 and wish I was in the 6% who had an earlier version of the operating system.

I will never buy another Apple product. I don't like how the new operating systems make my older device obsolete.

Is there any way for me to go back to ios6?
