LED lights for kid's room

My kid wants LED lights in her room. I think she wants the strip lights which I think look trashy since they're exposed but I can understand this from a kid. I wanted to put 4 hue can lights in but I think she would prefer the strip lighting. I see there are shitloads of strip lights on Amazon. Any recommendations?

as a father of a teenage daughter who wanted this done in our last 2 houses, they ALL look trashy. they generally come w/ self-adhesive backing and the better reviewed ones on amazon will generally stick to the walls but you will probably want something that nails into the wall every so often so it doesn't sag/come off when the weather changes.
it all looks like shite when you're done and will pull the paint off the wall when you eventually take them down. teenagers freaking love these stupid things and no, hue ain't gonna cut it.

i hated it the first time i did it and i hated it more the second time i did it.

Is there a particular pattern of the lights she's going for or does she just want them around the ceiling?
Could you get some strips of trim, and glue the lights to that? Then tack the trim along ceiling edge? At least that way you can easily remove the lights without a bunch of adhesive on your walls.

Attach the strips under the bed, to the back of the nightstand, dresser, etc... to hide them

There is also the aluminum track with diffuse covers which can sort of blend/meld with existing trim.
You can also get some LED wall panels that may not look too bad:

This.
If you go with the diffusers you have to be mindful of the led density, how deep is the aluminum channel and how thick is the diffuser if you want it to look like a neon strip and not a bunch of milky white dots.
They have the all-in-one kits with power, controller, and remote but they are a low-density strip and won't do well in a diffuser setup.
I had read BTF lighting was a good brand of strips. I tried their 144led per meter strips but they only have them in 1m lengths and I wanted 3 for my AV rack. There is another website with a 5m roll if you want that dense of a strand but you will need a big power supply for it. You also need a controller and they have them with remotes and apps
If you are looking to do long runs of strips I would also look at 12v at least if not 24v. 5v strips will get dim towards the end of the strip and you might have to inject power along the way.
Or you can look for LED panels like the above. You can also add some around the back of pictures or TVs if they have one.
Hue is pricy but works well if you don't need all the different lighting effects the other things have.
Also, look at govee on amazon they are like a cheap hue and may have some good-looking options for you. They even have their own panels LED Pannels
It might be enough if you have the bulbs in the lamps and ceiling and maybe some strips under the bed and behind the dresser. Sell it as a more complete cover of color changing vs just a strip.
Like my AV room under the stairs

Grab an ESP8266, string up some ws2811 led strips (5v power supply), load up WLED onm it and let'r rip. Fully controllable from a web browser on computer or mobile.
Maybe try putting the LED's in diffusers to cut down the trashiness?

We bought the strip lighting with adhesive and put them behind headboards and dressers. Gives them the low light colored LED, but the strips are not visible when off. Most of them are cut to length, making them perfect for securing behind furniture in various sizes.

Good vid, I think it was his I watched on the different diffusers. I also ordered a bunch off amazon to test out in my rack.

LED strip Amazon
We have these and love them.
They also can be set to “ambient sounds” so I have them all over the front yard and play Christmas music next to them from a Bluetooth speaker. They flash and change to the music. Pretty awesome.

Govee makes some strip led lights that are pretty amazing, can connect to your phone, and work with Alexa. The color combinations are endless. And they will sync to music. The 50’ ones are $60 at Walmart.
Yes they look trashy. But if your kid wants them whatever. They will peel off later. May need to retouch a bit of paint. Kid is only a kid once.

My kids put them on the bottom of his bed. It’s not trashy because you can’t see them unless they’re on. I hate being trashy. For my room, I put them around the mirror hanging over the bed.

You made their Alexa name “sex lights,” didn’t you?
