I will be using the receiver from the master bedroom. The RF remote reaches from the patio. Would I need an HDMI splitter to run a cable from bedroom to patio?
I'll be using apple TV out there also but want the option to watch dtv too.

i'd have to see your setup. how far away? will this tv be permanently mounted? you could buy a cheap splitter at monoprice, but you might consider just running a separate hdmi cable that had an end cap on it and simply swap the "hdmi out" on your AVR when you want to watch the other tv.
you can go as low tech or as high tech as you want here.
if you want to run both tvs at the same time, you'd just plug the other end of the HDMI directly into the DTV box out and run appleTV or xbox or something on the other one.
make sense?
you need to carefully consider exactly WHAT you want to do here before spending money on cables.

How are the new genies wireless? Wireless dongle ?

I was just seeing this on their website... I guess I need to call. That would save me running cables through attic

Is 60hz sufficient for an outdoor tv that is mainly for sports?
Posted on 9/15/14 at 7:55 pm to Me4Heisman
That's what I'm getting. I'm buying the cheapest 42" I can find tomorrow.

I got the new genie system specifically for the wireless feature to use outside when I get it all hooked up.

I just got off phone with DTV, they're coming in the morning. I'm getting a wireless genie for the patio which means no running coax or HDMI in attic. It feeds wirelessly from my living room Genie. Luh-git

How far will you be from the tv? Is 42 enough? I went with a 55" rca for my patio and I'm glad I did.

10-15'
Covered Patio isn't that big, yet.
It's going in corner under speaker

I would consider going slightly bigger and get a mount you can tilt.
I just took this pic a few minutes ago. I'm sitting about 10 ft from the TV
I also have another 16 or 20 feet behind me where the outdoor kitchen is and I can see it from there pretty well

Hmm you think a 50" would be too big for my corner?
Posted on 9/15/14 at 9:10 pm to Uncle JackD
Not at all. I was worried the 55" would be too big for mine but as you can see its fine. I could have gotten away with a 60". I don't have DTv but my master BR is on the other side of the wall so I ran an HDMI cable and IR extender cable for the remotes through the wall. My receiver and cable box sit inside my bedroom and the remotes work outside.

Well I'm headed to BB in am to buy. I'm also thinking of getting the geek squad plan to replace it if (when) moisture gets to it. Wacha think?

I bought my Rca at BB a few weeks ago. They had them on sale for $480. I say go at least 50.

Does it actually have to be corner mounted? That flat wall would give you a ton of space

I have a 42 inch with a wireless genie on my patio. Works perfectly
No extended warranty is needed. If it's fully enclosed and free of rain you're fine.
Buy a cheap tv and you will probably get 4-6 years out of it. Not bad
