What "software" does the iPhone have that would make it so compelling to stay?
Most apps are on both platforms

Absolutely nothing, just people that don't know any better in 2025. Scared to death to ever try anything new.
Same type of people that say they'll only ever drive a Ford and Chevy sucks or vice versa.

Status symbols matter to a lot of people and Apple has more of that going for them. They won't try anything new due to the perception of their social circles

I'll say this, that is one of the main drivers of a lot of things. People do all kinds of things because of their peer group. Whether it's a phone choice or clothing, etc. Men and women both do a lot of things based off of who they are around.
What I've noticed is that the younger generations are actually less competent with technology than you think. That's why they like iphones so much. It's easy to just go with the flow. Your average zoomer is more or less a moron when it comes to technology. They can't figure shite out, because everything is dumbed down for them.
So I find it ironic when certain posters say things like, iphones are for girls and people over 50. The irony is that iphones have a larger markeshare with 20 somethings than you think. It's mostly cheapskates and older folks that have Android devices. Even globally (if you believe the numbers) among younger people in developed countries, they almost universally want iphones. You've got to go to the poorer countries to see the huge uptake in Android.
In any case: pick your poison. It doesn't really matter, unless you think it does.

Lol no. Samsung outsells Apple in Korea by more than Apple outsells Samsung in the US, and by a pretty good margin. Samsung is 82% of the market share in Korea, whereas Apple is 57% of the US. Apple is US based and Samsung is obviously Korean so it's comparing their home market. Apple is also third in market share in China at just 15%. So two the most advanced tech countries in the world today, Apple is nowhere near the top.

This is a fact. The largest demographic of iPhone users is overwhelmingly female. You will almost never see a woman with anything else. Again, it ties back to social circles and being tech dumb.

Younger people want iphones. It's true in any developed nation.
Here's from a survey in 2024:
Basically, the younger you go, the more likely you are to want an iphone. And yes, women do prefer the iphone. They like to take pictures and they're all on social media. They care about status and they're spending money on plastic surgery, iphones, and attracting high earning men.
Gallup Korea surveyed 1,002 Koreans aged 18 and older throughout Korea on July 2-4. The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a 95% confidence level.
Respondents in their 50s and 60s showed an overwhelming preference for Galaxy smartphones. Eighty-six percent of those in their 60s reported using a Galaxy, compared with just 1% reporting the use of an iPhone.
Among those in their 50s, 86% reported using a Galaxy, while 9% reported using an iPhone. Galaxy use was also reported by 77% of those in their 40s and 72% of those in their 70s, far exceeding the respective iPhone use rates of 19% and 2%.
iPhone use was especially prevalent among respondents aged 18 to 29. In this demographic, 64% responded that they use an iPhone, while only 34% responded that they use a Galaxy phone. Broken down by gender, a whopping 75% of women in their 20s said they use an iPhone. Among women in their 30s, 59% said they use an iPhone, while only 38% said they use a Galaxy phone.
Keep in mind, this is in Korea; where Samsung is king. Despite that bias, the younger generation with disposable income want iphones. You can say what you want, but the truth is what it is.

Y’all are really reaching trying to justify not being in the cool group chats.

This has been my experience and my family (who've only had iPhones) can't understand my frustration. The ios upgrade to 26 "liquid" whatever did improve it somewhat, although my battery now dies in half the time.

Well, places like tech boards are overwhelming biased for Android tech nerds. The reality is most people no longer give a shite about tech, nor do they much need to these days anyway.

They'd better start giving a shite because if we end up with machines writing all the code and nobody knows what's going on we're fricked.

I think it's more that phone tech has stagnated to the point that most people just don't care about whatever minor differences might exist. I'm extremely tech forward, but I see no reason to go through the effort of learning a new ecosystem when I've had a iphone since 2008, and I can't think of anything that I'd like for it to do that it doesn't. It's a phone. As long as it does phone things, internet things, and camera things, I'm good. In 2025, if someone is already on Android, they will probably stay on Android. If someone is already on iOS, they will probably stay on iOS. Outside of tech nerd circles, most people just don't care enough to inconvenience themselves at this point.

I'm not sure how Apple works now but when my wife had an iPhone, it was an act of congress to get pictures off her phone to a PC. Plug in, sync, iTunes, etc. With my android, you would just plug it in and pull the picture off. Easy.

quote:been using Android since the iPhone 3. I really don't think it's changed as much as maybe you just had a different experience. It's always been better/easier/more intuitive. Hell, it's worth it for the back button alone. When I have to use my wife's iPhone for something she can't figure out, I end being frustrated and curious as to how so many people put up with that crap.
The last time I played around with an android was around 3-4 years ago. Either Android has come a long ways OR SamSung has enhanced the Android OS with their own version

Mostly what you're used to. When someone hands me an Android to troubleshoot, I find the UI to be extremely non-intuitive and difficult to navigate.
I doubt either of them are actually difficult; it's simply what you're familiar with.

I have tried android a few times but shite never worked. I have had the top Samsungs, I tried the one plus McLaren edition… they all had trouble with basic shite with the base apps. Emails wouldn’t work right, voicemail wouldn’t work right. Just always something. Swapped back to iPhone and don’t see any reason to change back unless something really big changes.

I will say this latest Apple update is pretty shitty. It added a lot of unnecessary steps on routine tasks

Same. Like you still can't adjust media volume *before* playing media? At least not simply?
