Spent the weekend with inlaws in Georgia and they have YouTubeTV and rokus on every TV and it worked amazing. I'm about to ditch my Directv and go with that setup. With the cloud dvr, I found it hard to find a con.

That is an individual thing. I have used every streaming system out there, and none of them are perfect. Having said that, I don't care for the Roku system, although it works well. I have tried YouTube TV, twice, and both times I just didn't care for it. The guide to me is clunky, and YouTube doesn't perform up to par for the price they charge. Currently I am using Fire TV and Nvidia Shield with Fubo. They all work well together but the Fubo Guide has issues if you leave your TV on for long periods of time. All I can say is try them all and then settle on what works best for you. Word of caution, the price of the Nvidia Shield is rather steep.

Dropped the 160.00 a month ATT uverse cable and went with youtube tv which only costs me 50.00 a month. It's been awesome. I have large screen smart tv's in every room of my house just load the youtube tv app on every tv and good to go. We have Netflix, Prime, and Apple Tv for streaming also. No extra boxes that I have to rent and just use the tv remotes that comes with the smart tv's.

If your deadset on YoutubeTV, you may want to give it a couple weeks.

Roku and Google went at it a couple months ago, essentially ending whatever their partnership was. Google wanted a lot of customer information but Roku would give them some up to a point, then Roku said kick rocks.

Youtube will be taken off Roku's on December 9th for this reason...I haven't read anything about if youtube tv will be removed, but it might.

If you’re going to cut the cord and go with a streaming service I would go with an Apple TV. They are expensive, but worth it. I’ve had it for a few years and I’ve had zero issues. It’s reliable, fast performance, and never locks up.

But like someone said, this is different for everyone.

Youtube TV was removed months ago. If your Roku already has YTTV installed it will stay there and continue working, but if uninstalled it can't be installed again. The workaround is the regular Youtube app can load up YTTV, but on Dec 9 the standard Youtube app might be removed as well.

It's a really shitty situation, and I can't decide whose side to take. Lean towards Roku but they probably aren't completely innocent themselves.

no different than the yearly pissing matches between amazon, google, comcast, directTV, major networks, dish, etc..

they all have separate content agreements so it seems you're not safe no matter which solution you go with. didn't comcast actually remove one of the local baton rouge stations for awhile?

YTTV is solid, and probably the best.

That said, the argument for ditching and going to YTTV is lower than ever, considering it's more expensive, cable is increasingly more competitive in price, and the quality and interface of YTTV can be hit or miss.

It does add the benefit of no box, easy cancellation/customer service and some small conveniences you'll appreciate over time.

But I think we're well past the days where it is a grand slam no brainer over a traditional package.

If you're sold on YouTube TV I'd recommend a Chromecast with Google TV streaming device. They're currently $40 and will avoid losing service due to any battles between Google and Roku, Amazon, Apple, etc.

"Local" stations are hardly local. They all get bought up by giant media conglomerates who use them as leverage in new carrier negotiations. They pit all the carriers against each other and use the high water mark from one negotiation as the low point in the next, and we all pay for it. Surely it has to come crashing down at some point, right?

They won't remove it, but you can't download YTTV at this time. You can get YouTube on Roku which lets you launch YTTV from within YouTube so a work around.

like i said this is beyond complicated and ridiculous at this point.

the idea of negotiating a different agreement with almost every channel is so unwieldy and yeah with all the mergers & stuff its almost impossible to figure out who is doing what to whom now.

This cannot be overstated. For watching live tv, what works for you will be based off of 2 main items. What channels/shows do you watch, how well you adopt to their platform.

First thing you'll want to do is a simple search comparing all of the live package options. This will show you what platform has what TV stations.

In regards to Roku, Fire... I actually prefer the SmartTV options and load up whatever I need through their app store. I have a few Rokus for my Peloton type apps that aren't offered

I bought a Roku Premier for $19.99 at Best Buy yesterday to replace my Roku 3 that was starting to lock up on the home screen. Lowes also has them for the same $19.99 while supplies last.

I will not tell you to get a powerful antenna and research torrents, I will not. I do not think doing anything illegal is appropriate. Pirate Bay is wrong, just WRONG, regardless of how many tv series and movies are there for you to download and keep forever. I will also not suggest to you to make sure you are using a VPN when downloading such torrents.

Please don't violate any laws. It's wrong.

We have YouTube TV running a TCL Roku TV that we've had for over 5 years.
YouTube TV was great when it first came out (good bang for the buck) but since they increased their price while the quality of the streams has gone down not coincidentally as they now offer 4k streams at a premium price.
For instance, the college football telecasts are very blurry when there is any movement on the screen so much so that we are seriously considering switching back to Cox Cable.
Also, the last UGA football game was not available through YouTube TV but was available through Fubo so I might give it a try.

From what I can tell, as long as you have a device that already has the app on it, it will download it to new devices as you set them up. I’ve recently bought two new Roku TVs and YoutubeTV downloaded to them with no problem.

I'm down to fubo.tv and Hulu (Disney+ bundle) and I have no complaints for Fubo.tv yet. (I've only been using it for 3 months)

They have my local news stations
I've been able to watch all the sports I want
It has live TV
It has watchable movies
I can record live TV if I need to

Guess my only complaint is when I go to shows they don't have every season of some shows. Like Yellowstone, I can watch seasons 2,3, and 4 but I can't watch 1.
