How much would I have to pay somebody to convert 100 dvds to portable hard drives?

I have around 100 dvds of movies and tv series that I would like to put on portable hard drives. How many portable hard drives would I need and is there a business that does this? I am not computer savvy and how much would I be looking at for this service?

Just download the movies or series

It’s not worth it

You can do it yourself for much less than it would cost to have someone else do it. Just need:

- a computer with a dvd drive (I assume you already have)
- a program to decrypt the dvds (I use AnyDVD but there may be cheaper/free ones)
- Handbrake to actually do the rip (free)
- time for the computer to do the work (will take up to a few hours each depending on the computer & dvd)

Damn it takes that long for each? I didn’t know it was that kind of process.

I was contemplating doing the same a while back. I have a huge box of old dvds. However people on this board convinced me to just torrent that shite. So much easier, and much less of a headache. So, I’m a bad boy now.

I know you say you aren’t computer savvy, so ask your kid or grandkid to do it for you, because they are probably doing it anyway.

I will ask some family members if they know how to do that but if not I will definitely do what you did!

You're better off finding a friend with movies on a hard drive and copying them to yours.

Rinse and repeat.

A decent desktop can rip a DVD and save it in well under 30 mins. My desktop averages 14 mins (8 core CPU), generally runs 190-210fps. Handbrake does everything at the CPU not the GPU.

It would take a couple of weeks around the clock to do it yourself. Buy android tv box from amazon or ebay that has a usb 3.0 port and download what you have on disk, all sequels, parts and seasons from the box times thousands.

MakeMKV is a good app for this.

I wish Apple would initiate some sort of trade in or “recycling” program where you could send in original store bought DVDs with clamshell and all for a discount to add to their library. At least 50-75% off and I would do it.

I can rip a DVD in about six minutes and a Blu Ray in about 16 minutes using Make MKV. These are exact duplicates.

I used Handbrake to reduce the file size on movies I don't really care much about, but movies that are great or classics I leave at full data.

Vudu has a disc to digital program. Haven't really checked it out though.

You can do this with VUDU. If you have Movies Anywhere you can have most of the movies you've bought from VUDU, Apple, Google, Prime, or Fandango show up on all services. Not all movies can be converted and not all show up on all services but most of mine have. Blu-Ray to HDX or DVD to SD is $2 plus tax. DVD to HDX is $5 plus tax. Just scan the upc to see if the movie is available. It also works if you can find upc's online. It's easier and cheaper to just use torrents but if you don't want to do that try disc to digital.
