I've been trying to buy a few hard drives for nearly a month now, specifically some WD Red 8TB drives. Amazon had zero in stock, so I went to Newegg. After a week they still had not shipped even though they were supposedly in stock, so I canceled the order and went to B&H. They only had one in stock and it was a refurb, but I was desperate by this point so I bought that one and put two more on back order. Well it arrived and it was only 2TB instead of 8TB. frick, RMA. So I checked back at Amazon and they had them in stock by this point, so I ordered them last week. The expected delivery date was Monday, check shipping and they are lost in transit. Refund.

WTfrick?!

Am I really unlucky or are things really this bad? Other electronics have been slow to ship but not this bad. Any recs for stores that have their shite together?

Not just tech.

Rouse's has a lousy selection. I went to Dollar General last week and half their shelves were empty

Yes. Supply chain sucks right now. It took me over two months to get two Juniper switches for a client. We're also seeing shortages in cable and other materials we order for our business. Everything is taking longer than normal for us.

Supply chains are bad for everyone right now. Your hard drives are probably sitting offshore of Long Beach on the same boat my non-tech material is sitting on. Covid did a number on shipping. It exacerbated the container shortage, but then you add in reduced output from worldwide sources and you have a recipe for short supplies.

Had a NAS drive die on me and ordered a WD Red Plus 6TB to replace it on 2/21 and it arrived on 2/23 from Bessemer, AL facility

Make sure you're getting the Red Plus (WD's new name for guaranteed CMR instead of SMR used in WD Red now)

It’s been a freaking nightmare selling tech for a living. Covid supply issues, AKM fire in Japan, container ships dumping containers of my speakers into the Pacific Ocean, and liberal arse California not letting enough people work in the port to unload ships and load products onto freight trucks/trains. When you can get the product it’s literally just setting off the cost of LA waiting.

All our inventory ($1M in tech gear) is sitting in containers in Long Beach...it is due to unions, and shitty union workers using Covid for paid leave due to “much safety”.

Bad, on all fronts. I'll give you a short summary, but you could write an entire book on all of these

1. Shipping costs have doubled or more in the last year
2. Containers are scarce. Chinese factories that make them have POS two years out
3. Something about Chinese New Year and time off is delaying manufacturing
4. When your product gets to American ports its usually in California, you've seen their covid response.

In short, the entire system in bottle necked right now from its manufacture in china to getting on a boat there to getting off a boat here. It's a cluster and from what I've seen it's not going to catch up until 2022 because everything won't be caught up in time when demand rises for holiday season
