I bought the tylt vu for my nexus five and it felt like the phone was about to catch on fire every time I charged it so I quit using it
I read about that. Had something to do with the wrong coil in the charger activating. Why it seemed to only affect Nexus 5s I'm not sure. Tylt apparently changed something in the design recently, too. I had to RMA my first one, and the one I got in exchange had a newer model number (101 instead of 100).

Has anyone here used project fi? Im interested in this
I've been on it for about a month, have the 1GB data plan for $30 a month, ends up being about $28 with the savings counted back from unused data.
Service is good, depends on area, if Sprint or TMO are good where you are, it'll be excellent. WiFi Calling/HD Calling is phenomenal, as is customer support which is 24/7 and instant, just fantastic and unheard of compared to a carrier. So for me so far, good service, great prices, great features, unheard of level of support. 9.6/10.
Now that Google is also offering to finance the new yearly Nexus devices, I would predict Project Fi to begin taking off majorly here at the end of the year, this 'project' is here to stay and could become huge. I already have two friends not only grabbing a new Nexus, but also on Project Fi, one a 5X and one a 6P. I'm pretty sure these are going to be the best selling Nexus devices to date, esp if reviews are pretty strong.

Project Fi is all kinds of awesome. I've been on it for 2 1/2 months, and though I had some initial concerns with coverage, those concerns were satisfied. It doesn't have the LTE coverage AT&T had/has, but I keep reading T-Mobile is improving their network. I haven't seen any improvement yet, but the 3G signal is plenty fast for what I've needed it for. Coverage is also spotty out in the sticks. Those are about the only negatives I can think of. The price really can't be beat, and I love the Nexus 6.

Considering making the jump. I live in Atlanta, so I would expect I wouldn't notice the difference from Verizon the majority of the time. Most of the short jaunts I make (Auburn, 30A, etc.) seem like they'd be well covered up too except for a few stretches where Verizon probably struggles some as well.
Anyone in GA who can give me anything else to consider?

Does Project Fi support text over wifi?
Also, when you say your bill is $28 with 0.8 GB usage, is it actually $28 or is that the price before taxes/fees/etc.?

Yes. Fi reverts to Wifi for calling and text when there's a Wifi signal available. I do all my texting through the Hangouts app.
The way billing works is it like a prepaid plan. The service has a base rate of $20 for unlimited talk and text, then $10 for each GB of data. You can choose how much data you want. Any unused data in a month is credited back to you on your next month's bill. If you go over your allotment, you're billed the next month for the overage. You're only charged for the amount of data overage you had, not a flat $10 like the major carriers do.
1 do 2 GB of data, which is $40, and with taxes and fees my normal bill is right at $44.

Do you live in Birmingham? If so, how's the coverage with fi? How about the out lining areas?

Ironically just received my Oneplus 2 invite, day after I ordered the Nexus 6P.

Yes, I'm in Bham. Coverage here is fine. The only issue I've had is inside a few buildings. The Sprint and Tmobile signals don't seem to penetrate within buildings as well as AT&T's.
My wife's family has land up near Oneonta, and the signal is pretty spotty around there. I get very little signal at the hunting camp there, but get one as soon as I get out on the main highway. That's really the only place I've been so far where I haven't gotten a signal. I got one dead spot on I-22 on the way to Jasper, but it was so brief it's not even worth mentioning. And it's the same spot where my AT&T signal dropped down to the Edge signal.

That the only thing I worry about. I have the old ATT unlimited plan, but I have been thinking about dropping. I hunt around the race track, and another track of land close to the GA line. I like to sit in the stand and keep a check on things. I guess I could just get the service and see how good it works.

I think the 6P makes me pull the trigger on Project Fi. Just too good of a deal to pass up.

The hunting camp issue doesn't really bother me. I read a book when I hunt anyway, so I rarely used my phone while actually hunting. And my father in law does have a Verizon hotspot at the house there, so I just get on that while at the house.
My father in law was worried about me hunting without a cell phone until I pointed out to him we used to hunt without cell phones all the time and did fine. We didn't get any cell coverage up there until 5 or 6 years ago.

As a nexus 5 (2013) owner i was disappointed with last years huge nexus 6. But this years, and the 499 price was too good to pass up.
Now i'm all in on the bigphone camp. 32gig aluminum on the way.

Yep, jumped on it this morning. I ran the numbers on buying and reselling my current phone (VZW) vs. likely savings on Fi plans and it paid for itself in shorter time than I expected. As long as the service isn't significantly problematic, should be a nice change.
