regardless of my begging and internet research my wife still wants a Macbook. How do I go about doing this? Education discount from apple? Buy from best buy? MacBook Pro or Air?
Need 256gb ssd and would like at least a skylake processor
im probably out about $1500 for this and already know the type of PC i could get for half this money but happy wife. happy life and all that.
She plugs her cameo silhouette into usb port do I really need to get a dongle to use simple usb crap? What about usb flash drives?

Tell her to get a $700 windows laptop and she can also get a $400 piece of jewelry. You save like $400

what is she going to use it for? Probably best off getting the plain MacBook. It uses the new USB port, USB C. It is not backwards compatible.

Just get her a silver colored windows laptop and put a shiny apple on it. She won't know the difference.

she will use it for her vinyl design side business. needs to connect a cameo silhouette. also does some light photo editing and the everyday internet crap
this is her primary software requirement, which seem pretty basic
The following are the minimum system requirements in order to run the Silhouette Studio® software:

also what the frick is a touch bar?

Cheapest way is an open box from Best Buy online or in store. You can get some fantastic deals.
Regarding the model, I'd go with an air or the 12 inch MacBook. The new pros are overpriced unless you get a killer deal (bb just had them on sale, and open box models were almost 30% off msrp)

Refurb.me
I'd buy refurbished from Apple or Amazon. This site will notify you when the refurbished model you want is available.
Touch bar is the on the newest version, provides a touch sensitive area of the keyboard that replaces the function keys.

Did you pull this from a recent porno you watched?

The base MacBook has a 1.1 GHz processor, but I'm certain that it would be enough. This 2016 1.1 GHz Skylake MacBook single core score is higher than the 2012 Mac Pro 3.1 GHz.

Listing the GHz speed requirement on its own does not help much. I had a coworker looking for advice on a computer for his daughter for school. The school listed the processor requirement as an Intel Celeron 2.1 GHz. He was looking at wither a core i5 or i3, but the speed rating was lower, like 1.7 GHz. When I told him any i3 would kill a celeron, and i5 would be even better, he was relieved.

That's on the MacBook Pro. They sell one without the touch bar thing for $1399. Probably your best bet for a long lasting computer, unless she just wants the tiny Macbook.
Amazon is the best place to buy them - they're about $100 off MSRP right now. I know LA residents are now paying sales tax, but you're doing that at Best Buy too. And they have a very generous return policy.

I was worried about this when I got a MacBook.
The thing flies. If you're cool with the screen size and keyboard, it really is a nice little machine.

What research is that?

Also she has a 2012 MacBook Pro... what's a good buy back program and how much should I be looking at getting for it used?
Posted on 1/30/17 at 5:56 pm to CE Tiger
Probably fetch $550+ on eBay for it. I sold my 2011 Air for $350 last month.

What does she currently use? Does she just use the stock software to create her vector files? She may have some software that currently runs on windows and she will need to use something like parallels to run windows on the Mac.

Macbook is a superior laptop. Good thing your wife wears the pants in the relationship and doesn't give in to your demands for cheap, low quality electronics.
