My plex server is fantastic and full of rare content.

Eta look at my star wars collection. I got about 6 different versions of each of the original trilogy.

Has anyone done the self install? I ordered it today and they make it sound like a breeze. Looked up some YouTube videos and couldn’t really find anything good. The things I did find doesn’t look overly easy (I’m not a tech person though).

It all depends on your current hardware at the house. Where is your ONT and what does it look like? If you dont have an ONT you might have a fiber jack somewhere.

I have nothing but glowing reviews since I switched. I hit 5tb data last month. That would have cost me an arm and leg with comcast.

Fiber not even breaking a sweat.

CAD i miss your stories of staying under that cap with the cable company. I bet since the switch the stress level has gone down ten fold and the rest of the house can now rest a little easier.

lord dude. it was HORRIBLE. and this was before sharing my plex server was even a gleam in my eye.

i still recall the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when i would come home from work to an empty house and hear BLIPPI streaming away on YT at glorious 4K quality.

must have been how my dad felt when he would walk into our rooms when i was a kid and find the 75w lightbulb just SHINING AWAY. he made sure i didn't make that mistake often.

I did this late in 2023 after being with cox (that sounds horrible btw) for 20years. At the end I just got tired of all the outages and bandwidth throttling that cox was doing. So far AT&T fiber has been great. No outages, and the speed has been steady the whole time.

AT&T will be installing fiber today (Wed 26th). 1 gig plan. Will use their Gateway equip.

Have had Cox since 1978-79. Kinda hard to cut them off totally but they’ve priced me out. Have already added YouTube TV.

Question: When should I cancel Cox? Same day as switch? Or wait a day or two?

I waited 1 day after the completed installation to terminate Cox. They came back with a low-ball offer, but as per Cox, they wouldn't state the duration. The ATT connection is so much better.

ATT installed today. Did a good job. Right at 4 hours with running line and attic drop and all. Three-man crew.

Still doing all the conversions on wi-Fi, etc. Only problem so far is with some wi-Fi bulbs connecting.

Speeds in upper 900s. Also put in two wi-Fi extenders that they were able to hard-wire so no drop in speed. 1 Gig setup, no data cap for $80/mo. Plus $10/mo. for two extenders and can add two more if needed for same price.

Am also in line for $300 in Visa gift cards. Hope they work.

But when it came to canceling Cox service it was a chore. I’ve been with them 45 years and they didn’t want me to go. Dropped me from $318/mo. all the way to $216 but I still said no. Had already committed to ATT and YouTube TV. But I didn’t burn my bridges and left all the cabling in place just in case.

By the way, YouTube TV is $57/mo. for 3 months then $79 afterward. Will try their 4K Plus option for 30 days (selection meh). Will also add MAX for $17/mo. and watch for specials.

All totaled, $180/mo. for same or better product. That’s a savings of about $140/mo. than what I was paying and still $40 better than Cox’s stripped down-service offer.

cable really needs to move away from promos and get with straight forward pricing like Google and now at&t.

Xfinity is doing this in some markets with their X-Class service and fiber services but still not across the board.

YouTube Tv on AppleTVs and ATT fiber is great. Don’t need 1 gig speeds at all. I think I pay $65/month and never have a speed issue.

FYI, prime day is right around the corner (~3 weeks) and there are always all sorts of 90 day pricing specials

Not all speeds do but the max you get with fiber doesn't even have 4k HDR so you are better off getting it yourself

Did you get the 1 GIG or “up to” 1 Gig? I have the “up to” 1 Gig and routinely sit at 450-550 Mb up and down for $30/mo.
