I am buying a house and the neighborhood doesnt have cable as the local cable company wanted 100% use by the whole subdivision. Yeah right. So...I have to get DISH or Direct. Im not into YouTube TV or Sling so I only want opinions on these 2 from those who have one or the other. Ive done some reading but there are conflicting opinions. What do you dislike about them?

Directv has the NFL Sunday Ticket. Only reason I have it.

Playstation Vue + Sports Package. Has the Redzone channel which is all you really need for NFL and all of the ESPN's, including SEC Network.

Pros - Both work for the most part.
Cons -
DirecTV is AT&T and AT&T is dogshit at everything they do. The products are good once you have them, but fixing even slight problems will usually be a nightmare
DISH will use you as leverage for its petty grievances with content providers under the guise of saving you money.
Dish to Customer - "Write Disney and tell them not to jack prices so you can get your Disney content back!!!"
Customer to Dish - "I'm not a lobbyist, what in the frick am I paying you for"

Both suck if there is a thunderstorm anywhere close to your house.

Dish is down HBO and MAX now including one BR network, I forgot which. This is relatively common and I honestly don't think they are going to get HBO/Max back... ever.
I have always preferred the Dish hardware.
Obviously, you aren't interested in hearing it but if you have solid high-speed internet you are throwing away a chunk of money per month with the satellite companies. I know I have been there and done both.

Dish has better equipment and sadly much better customer service then ATT.

I have Directv and have no complaints about it except cost but don’t think it’s much of a difference between them and Dish.
However, as soon as my 1 year is up and cost goes up I’ll be canceling and getting Hulu Live. There’s really no reason not to. Very cheap and have all the locals in my area. Even if they didn’t I have an antenna set up in attic I could use. A decent antenna + cable and wall plate would maybe be $100.
Even with DTV cancellation fee, I’ll still save 500-600 next year by switching.

Had both and eventually cut the cord and have the basic direct tv now base grandfathered plan with my unlimited data discount comes to $25/mos. Also have a HD antenna in my attic for my locals.

I have DirecTV ... I hate it. Customer service is awful, goes out every time it rains, takes forever to change channels or load DVR. I have no experience with dish, but I will be out of contract with direct in October and ill never go back with them

I have lot signal once in about 6 months, and that was during a pretty rough storm with a lot of wind. My channels and DVR don’t take a long time to load either.
You sure something isn’t off? Would Satellite alignment affect that?

I had Comcast for 15+ years and last year moved and had to make the same decision. I went with DirecTV as my parents have had it for years and are happy with it. The only negative I've found is that you can lose signal in a heavy storm but that would be same for Dish.
I don't care for their set top box/dvr UI. With Comcast I had Tivos which were much better.
Also another plus for DirecTV for me is that they will be carrying the new ACC Network.
One tip I learned is don't use wireless for the recievers if you don't have to. Use the coax if you got it.

This is true. Was with DirecTV for 12 years. Switched to Dish 3 months ago. Hardware and technology is much better with Dish.
Dealing with AT&T (they purchased DirecTV) is like watching a monkey fricking a football. Seriously, AT&T ruined DirecTV.

I assumed something was off, because I had DirecTV before about 10 years ago, and never really lost signal. So I paid to have a technician come out about a year ago. He said my line of sight, and alignment were perfect. He said it just goes out sometimes in heavy storms. I tried explaining to him that i lose signal in just rain showers...
There is a reason that DirecTV is losing subscribers in record number, and it's a combination of cost, and the fact that their customer service and technical support is the worst in the business.
And for that matter, satellite service as a whole is losing subscribers at a much faster pace than traditional cable companies. The fact is, satellite TV is terrible when compared with cable, or streaming. The hardware they use is just slow and antiquated.
I think you are really limiting yourself if you won't even consider a streaming service. Think to yourself how many times your WiFi has gone out due to weather vs DirecTV...

That is just not true at all. Dish and DirecTV still have the best hardware in the business. It is still a superior experience to streaming as well. DVR on streaming is terrible in comparison.
Cost is the reason... That and ATT destroyed DirecTV's reputation

Um, I guess we can all make outlandish claims, with no support, but in no way shape or form is DirecTV genie system better than x1 from Xfinity. Now I have no first hand experience with the hopper from dish, but the fact that I would have to get separate internet service for dish make it a non starter for me.
Comcast is better than direct in every possible way except for the ability to watch video in 4k, which doesn't matter anyway since very few programs are recorded in 4k and most people still don't have 4k tvs.
But channel change speed, on demand loading, and on device apps are significantly better on Xfinity.
As far as DVR on streaming, it is significantly better on streaming apps such as youtubetv or psvue that offer unlimited cloud storage. I mean, it's not even close to what DirecTV offers for DVR.

Try watching some TV on your Comcast receiver at the camp house or tailgate and get back to me

Yea, they do win out there compared to Comcast, but I'm watching my dad's Hulu live at our lake house as we speak, so streaming services have the advantage in that case as you don't need to install a second dish
