My internet provider did some technical work last night and turned off my internet from midnight to six a.m. When it came back on Opera had been erased from my computer. IS said they had nothing to do with it and that is something they would not even have the technology to do. Are they bullshitting me? If not what happened? I am at a level of pissed I haven't been since the 1998 Big 12 Championship game. I've had to reload Opera and now I'm having to go back through the internet and resave all the bookmarks I had.

while remotely possible, what browsers you are using is not anything an ISP would ever care about.

Add to that it would be illegal for them to access your computer without your authorization under any circumstances.

While the technology exists to do this, they aren't bullshitting you. As already mentioned it would be illegal, but also what would be the fricking point of deleting Opera?

You happened, most likely. It's not good business for programs to uninstall themselves, and there's just no way your ISP did it. That just leaves you. If you didn't do it accidentally, then you have allowed another person or some malware access to your computer.

If you let your ISP have it, then they're probably having a good laugh about it.

Were they over at your house messing around on your computer? I guarantee you that if they were doing some work between midnight and 6 am they were upgrading their own servers and didn't "turn the internet in your home off". More likely the systems your home modem/router normally communicates with to get on the Internet were down so there was no Internet from your ISP for you to access. And none of that has anything to do with Opera being on your computer or not.

No surprise, your ISP is in bed with Google and Microsoft

Happened to me when AT&T deleted Netscape from my Packard Bell last month

Are the program files gone or just the shortcut icon on your desktop?

If your internet was "turned off", how would they remotely access your computer?

Okay, Windows uploaded an update on my computer today and when I restarted it the same thing happened. My Opera browser was gone. The shortcut was still in My Documents but all of my bookmarks and history were wiped. So I am assuming the same thing happened a couple of weeks ago as I slept. (puts tin foil conspiracy hat on) It's almost as if they do not want me using any other browser other than Edge on my computer. (takes tin foil conspiracy hat off) As a side note if there is anything in the universe more useless than Microsoft's support website I have yet to discover it.
