I’m with ATT. I just really don’t understand why now we get zero credits for contract extending and we forced to purchase the phone for 30 months. $38 something per phone. So what route is best?

Wait until September when the new iPhones come out and buy them used from Swappa.

Yeah, this is about the worst possible time of the year to buy an iPhone. New models come out in September and old models go down by $100.

Cell providers no longer want to subsidize the cost of the phone for you. They play on the American mentality of “If I can afford the monthly note then I can afford it.” Buy it outright or on Swappa like others have said. There are really well taken care of used phones for great prices.

Leasing a phone is stupid.

You're not buying a used car.

A phone either works or it doesn't.

There is no wear and tear.

Just purchase them outright. Looking on Apple's store, they are sold for $999. From what you listed at 38/month for 30 months, that comes out to $1,140. I have never understood the idea about financing a cell phone. If you don't have the money to just buy one outright, then you're really making an impulse buy and it's not a smart financial decision. If you don't have the cash on hand, simply save up the money first.

Phones have become the primary computing device for the masses. My wife fires up her laptop once every few weeks at most because most of the information search, creation and consumption she needs to do she does on her phone and I think that's fairly common these days. Whether it's a good financial decision to buy an iPhone X vs. other less expensive is certainly debatable, but I don't think you can dismiss purchasing a phone as an impulse buy. It provides a lot of utility to most people and is well worth an investment.

Just bought one on Gazelle for the wife at a nice discount. She doesnt care about latest and greatest and I was tired of hearing her bitch about how her SE wouldnt hold a charge and dropped calls all the time.

Agreed. Considering how powerful phones are now, along with how often people use them, $30/month or whatever is nothing.

The $38 for 30 months price is for the 256GB model which sells for $1,149. You aren't paying more for a phone if you finance it with your carrier. Accepting 0% terms isn't a bad financial decision.

Uhh, it's not leasing. You own the phone after you pay it off. They're basically giving you an interest free loan. Even with my business we use ATT NEXT because why pay the full price if you can get an interest free loan for it? Not to mention you get a $30/line credit per month for every phone that is on the NEXT plan.

so if i get 2 phones on the next plan

2 x 38 = 76 per mo. for 30 month
but you're saying i'll then get a $30 per month credit?

They will as long as the phone is within its original 1 year warranty.

Just bought two from Verizon. Put on the 24 month plan. No interest, so why not?

They gave us $300 credit for trading in each of our old crapped out 6's. Just have to send them in within 15 days in a prepaid envelope. Gives you time to ensure you transferred all data before wiping.

Switched from AT&T. Paying about the same monthly, but getting two iPhone X's, and the bill will drop a good bit after 24 months.
