Can y’all give me some ideas what I should get him? I don’t want him to have an iPhone just yet. Just need to be able to get in touch with him

14 years old and does not have any form of communication device? That seems very late to me.

Get him an IPhone, if you are one of those parents... IPhones can be controlled and restricted better than any other phone out there.

Why not? You can get a 3-5 year old model refurbished for under $200.

Because he's the parent. That's why.

The way kids are these days, if he doesn't have an iPhone he's going to be stuffed in a locker.

Walmart has 2022 IPhone SE 3rd Gen iPhones for $149. The iPhones unlock after 60 days if you buy one of the Verizon carriers like Straight Talk or Tracfone. You can buy theStraight Talk iPhone & activate it on Tracfone for $15 a month for the 60 days.

I showed this post to my pre-teen middle schooler and he said, "No dad. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

Whats great about an iphone if parent also has an iphone, being able to know where he's at at all times....
Unless he intentionally leaves the phone behind, or at a friends house while they go to a party, etc....
Yes I know its to early for that, but its coming...
Ive got a 14 year old & think mom got him a phone at 6......

iPhone's are at an all time high with pre-teens and teenagers. There's story after story coming out of kids being bullied for having the wrong color bubble. I don't agree with it, just something that's come up the past couple of years.

My son is 14 and has an iPhone SE. He needed something because he travels a lot of with marching band, scouts, and sports. It's reasonably durable and if he breaks it, it's not terribly expensive to repair/replace. iPhones have great limiting features.

He earned some freedom, made some mistakes and got to see most of his phone icons greyed out. I can set his screen time so he doesn't get to live on it. I'm no Apple fanboy, but it's a great phone for teens.

They do the same thing as an android, genius. I was just curious if it was a cost issue, ma'am.

ETA:

OP literally alludes to this.

IPhone, android, rotary dial. It doesn't matter what kind of phone it is. Your kids, your decision.

Man just get an iPhone. In high school or damn close. Get the boy a decent phone so he can also talk to his friends. If you get a cheap android phone, it's going to break and you'll end up having to buy yet another phone. You can find a iPhone that's a couple models old and it wont been too bad on the wallet.

Smart phones and social media are messing up an entire generation of kids and you have multiple people in here urging the OP to do the same to his 14 year old.

My guess is they are the types to want every kid to have one because they gave theirs one and dont want to feel like they are being a bad parent.

Facebook had to change their name to Meta bc a whistleblower spoke out about their knowledge of how bad this stuff is for everyone but especially kids. What more do people need to see?

Man, what a dumbass thing to say. iPhone owners are truly a cult.
