iPhone's are at an all time high with pre-teens and teenagers. There's story after story coming out of kids being bullied for having the wrong color bubble. I don't agree with it, just something that's come up the past couple of years.

My 14 yr old daughter was told something for hers having a home button, like "ew, your phone has a home button". It was an iPhone SE 2022 version.

ETA: I just want to add that she said that she did not feel bullied by this, was just a comment made to her.

Smart phones and social media are messing up an entire generation of kids and you have multiple people in here urging the OP to do the same to his 14 year old. My guess is they are the types to want every kid to have one because they gave theirs one and dont want to feel like they are being a bad parent. Facebook had to change their name to Meta bc a whistleblower spoke out about their knowledge of how bad this stuff is for everyone but especially kids. What more do people need to see?

My son is 16 but we got him his first phone at 14, my 12 year old still doesn’t have one. Saying that I agree with every thing you said. Wife was itching to get him one at 12, I wanted to wait until 16, we settled for 14. He never had issues because he got his phone late. He doesn’t even bring it to school and very seldom takes it with him to friend’s houses

To those questioning why a parent might even think of depriving little Timmy of the brand new IPhone as soon as he turns 8, is it not obvious?

When you give a child a phone with internet, especially a boy, you’re giving them porn along with a whole host of other things.

I think it’s a pretty common sense decision to not give a phone to a child.

Something about 2024 that common sense is considered crazy.

FWIW, the average child is introduced to phonography at 11 years old. Stop and think about that for a second.

You are about 4-5 years behind. My freshman son and his friends communicate via aps and don't use text messaging. What phone they have never enters the discussion. Groupme. Snapchat. Discord. Etc.

We held off and are glad our 14 and 13 year have a phone

They are in a lot of activities and text us they are out early or staying late and also when their at friends houses

As long as you police it, it’s pretty efficient
