Forgive my ignorance/oldness, Last year or year before I promised my kid a PS5 if he got straight A's on his report card. On his most recent interim he is sitting on all A's. I am a man of my word so I will hook him up if this plays out. I am from the Atari 2600 generation and don't game at all. He is 11....TIA

Best for him likely will be what platform most of his friends play on. If all his friends have a PS5 and game online, personally I wouldn't buy him an Xbox unless he just really wanted one knowing all games aren't cross platform compatible.

As far as I know he plays Roblox most of the time on his phone and Kindle.

I think ps5 is a better system, but I agree that it’s probably more easy to get what his friends are on.

An updated version of the PS5 is coming out in November. Imo PS5 is better and does sell way more than Xbox.

XBOX. Seems most people I know are on that platform. Could be an age thing. IDK.

I wouldn’t recommend OP wait for the PS5 Pro. It will be $700 and probably difficult to acquire due to low supply. An 11 year old would not notice the performance improvements over the current PS5 at $400-450.

I think the Xbox Series X is the better system and has better integration with television. But much like VHS beat beta the PS5 is winning the marketing war. I have both but I gravitate to the Xbox.

PS5 is slaughtering the Xbox for a second straight generation. 60M sales to 29M as of Aug 31st update.

Most games are compatible to play across both PS5 and Xbox, along with some compatibility with PC users. For example: you can play games like Rocket League, Destiny 2, Overwatch (to name a few) with people on PC and Xbox if you own a PS5. PS5 has a lot more exclusive titles that are single player heavy and are better than most of what Xbox has put out. Xbox has Game Pass which gives you access to a library of games, both AAA gaming and a ton of indie games. They phase out some old games and bring in new ones every month. I play a few games on my Xbox that I don't outright own but have access through Game Pass that aren't likely going away anytime soon. Also, most of my friends own Xbox, so I've stuck with them since 2007.
If he asked for a PS5 I would get him that, but Xbox is just as good of a console. It really just comes down to what games he plans on playing and if he has friends to play with.
Xbox and PS5 have Discord integration now so they are able to communicate with friends across PS5/Xbox/PC without being limited to just the native party chat function.

First, congrats on you kid actually putting in the work to earn his reward. He knows what he wants and what his friends play on, just take him to Best Buy or Walmart and get the console he picks out. He may prefer a Nintendo Switch. If he does want the Xbox, don't cheap out for the series S, just go ahead and get him the series X

As a PS5 guy, the correct answer is PC. It will be pricier but can be upgraded as time goes on vs the kid wanting a new console every time a new one comes out.
