I think on the slower speeds there is a data cap.

I pay $90. I have a friend that is in the same area that pays $70. I think it's because he is a former UVerse customer and the discount stuck for some reason. My $90 is for just internet, and all taxes and fees are in that flat $90, which is very surprising for AT&T.

What would be a realistic download and upload speed with a new generation iPad or iPhone over wifi?

Youre gonna love it. I’ve had mine 5 months or so and it’s been flawless. I actually dropped Down to from 1GB to 100MB package to save $$ and it’s been plenty fast. I’ll get 120mbps on Speedtest.

I love my ATT Fiber connection. I only stream tv and on Saturday had all three early games going at the same time (TV, TV, tablet). Almost 0 hiccups (one of the tvs would lag/pixelate a couple of times during the game, but I suspect it is the gen-1 chromecast at fault).

Ensure you have the proper supporting hardware, e.g. gigabit capable router with 802.11ac (bonus if it is MU-MIMO), cat5e/cat6 cabling, 5.0ghz capable devices (the 2.4ghz Roku sucks in comparison to the 5.0ghz), etc.

I pay 80 now for the 1gb unlimited data but in 6 months it goes to 90 but that's with taxes included. I cant complain because we use streaming with a family of 5 and that unlimited data pays for itself. Totally happy with AT&T fiber

I can get it in my neighborhood but how do I know if the service is good. I have been told that some people with uverse have issues if they are not close to a node

If you are getting fiber then you do not have to worry about distance. Fiber service is not like dsl where you have distance limits due to attenuation. Everyone in a fiber neighborhood is capable of getting the same speeds and services.

Any of our ATT fiber guys still in this thread? Any idea when Westminster subdivision might have fiber? Seems like we would be prime for a retrofit installation.

I've seen new Samsungs pulling around 400 using our router. I installed the customer's router behind ours, and a his speeds jumped to around 600 symmetrical. The fastest I've seen on Apple devices is around the 400 threshold, but most of the time we are testing on iPhone 7s or below. I would guess that iPhone 8 and X would get closer to the current Samsung benchmarks.

FWIW, we push down about 20% more speed than the customer pays for. So, with a 50x50 account, the customer's speeds will average around 62x62 (or at least 60x60), and 100x100 yields 120x120 like you mentioned. Same with 300x300. Basically, unless you're running a server farm in your back bedroom, there's little reason (other than the terabyte-per-month data cap) to get the full gigabit speeds. A full-time, responsive 100x100 will serve just about every househould without buffering EVER.

All Uverse is NOT fiber. With the old copper facilities, distance from a node was (is) a key consideration. In the copper configuration, we bring a fiber optic connection into a neighborhood and then deliver basically enhanced DSL over existing telephone lines. At short distances, we can get up to around a 90x10 connection, with speeds dropping to around 25x5 at around a mile from the source. Farther than that, our speeds go down to 18, 12, 6, 3, 1.5, and even 768k. And, yes, I have hooked up customers to a 768k connection. It sucks, but I guess it's still more than 10x the speed of the old 56k dialup. Still sucks though. But, with true fiber optics, we bring the fiber all the way into the home and place the ont immediately adjacent to the modem/gateway. FWIW, YMMV, etc.

Westminster subdivision in D.S. has fiber. This is a subdivision off John L Lane near Juban. I've hooked up plenty of houses in there in the past year. If there's another Westminster (in BR or whatever), I don't know.
