Just bought a house, it has 2 outdoor speakers mounted under the eaves I want to replace but need an amp to power. Not planning to do a full on home entertainment system so do not want to get an expensive receiver and amp etc. Mainly just want to be able to connect to the patio speakers with my phone via Bluetooth or airplay.

Could I grab a marine/weatherproof 2 or 4 channel amp and mount in the attic to power the speakers? Or will this burn my house down

I am just using a basic receiver I got off Woot. At first I used bluetooth, but now use Chromecast Audio-the greatest tech item in the history of mankind.

Yeah I’m looking at some basic 2 channel mini amps on Amazon. I know they’ll work, I just don’t want to have to run wire into the house. Would be nice to have everything in the attic and Bluetooth/wifi in. The speakers have existing wiring, so plug and play to a degree.

I'm sure your attic gets extremely hot in the summer so whatever you do make sure the operating temperature range of the amp is within the temperature range of the attic or you could indeed be burning the house down.

IOW, the attic is NOT a good place for an amplifier.

Had a hunch it’s a bad idea, that’s why I came to confirm. I can probably find a way to run wire to an interior closet, so will try that.

Okay, follow up:

I will plan to drop a line to where my tv is inside and get a receiver or integrated amp. What’s the best way to run the following without breaking the bank? Two outdoor speakers, TV, sound bar w/ sub and a Roku.

Ideally, i want to be able to use AirPlay on the Roku to play music both indoors and/or outdoors.

I prefer Denon. They make several levels of power and functionality.

I use a rackmount Pyle amp that was pretty cheap off of Amazon that works pretty much flawlessly. It's racked with the rest of my equipment in the storage room and goes to my 4 outdoor speakers. Have my TV going to the amp via 100' optical cable

Attic. But he said it didn’t sound good so he unplugged it and never used the speakers.

I use one of those cheap Fosi Audio 2ch amps as well. I bought an Echo Dot and use it to play hardwired music to the amp. Bluetooth was pretty unreliable and would play pretty choppy. The Echo Dot uses WiFi so it’s much cleaner.

So I ended up grabbing one of those Fosi amps actually. Figured I’ll get it setup and see how much we actually use the outdoor system and upgrade from there.

I have one of those fossi amps. My tv sits under about an 8' overhang. I velcroed the amp to my tv mount. It has sit outside under the overhang since last year with no problems. I just used it Saturday night.

Same here. My x4400 has three zones that I can control from my phone. Other receiver brands offer the same of course.

Or you could just get the Prime Wireless Speaker System from SVS. It's on sale for $400,$200 off.

That Prime system is intriguing. Hard to find info on the amp though.

As of right now, my setup will be two Klipsch KHO-7 mounted under the eaves powered by a Fosi DA2120C 2.1 amp. Going to get a Belkin Soundform Connect to hook up to the amp via optical to enable Airplay 2.

I had originally ordered a smaller Fosi 2.1 channel amp but realized it doesn’t have an optical in/DAC and supposedly the 3.5mm analog audio out on the Belkin doesn’t sound great, so optical is preferred.

Won’t be moved in til end of the month so wont have a finished product to report on for a few weeks.

Like others stated with having the amp in the attic being a bad idea, that also applies to your speaker wire. So make sure you have wire rated for attic use.

Have two speakers outside that haven't worked in quite some time. I am going to replace the knob on the wall to see if that gets me anywhere. I don't know what volt or watt knob I need? They are connected to my receiver inside. Would I need an amp?
