Why is focusing on playing defense not a viable strategy to you people?

It’s not a strategy to win. It’s a strategy not to lose.

I’m also just laughing at the notion that this is the “blueprint”. It’s literally the same strategy every over matched side has used in the World Cup for 50+ years.

It’s arguably not even a strategy, because that implies there’s other options you can deploy when that outclassed

Paraguay is trashy, dirty, and doesn’t belong in the WC with that BS. What an embarrassment to futbol.
I would love to see FIFA sanction them, but I every time I hear sanction I think of Dave Chapelle as Black Bush

The circle jerk on France has me laughing. 1-0 over Paraguay?!?

The 2010 Spain squad is considered one of the best of all time. They won every knockout round match by a score of 1-0 on their way to the title. That included a 1-0 win over Paraguay in the quarters.

50+ years of examples to develop a counter strategy and France had no answer for it.

Not only is that a failure on the French managers, it's also a strategy that works against them.

Complain all you want about "parking the bus", but it's apparently effective vs France. Especially when you combine crashing on the ball and squeezing the pass windows.

Here you go again acting like they did something special. This is literally the exact strategy when you park the bus

The only thing Paraguay did that was “special” was constantly foul France off the ball without getting carded.

That is not a blueprint. It is simply the only thing that makes sense to do to give you a chance to win

I don't know what point you're trying to make here.

The whole point of a game plan is to give you the best chance of getting a win.

Paraguay's best chance was to rely on the strength of their team: defense.

They are a great defensive team. In the World Cup they have two clean sheets, and conceded one goal to Germany and France (PK). They conceded 4 goals to the US. That is the anomaly. The last time they conceded more than two goals before the US was to Brazil in 2024.

France has scored no less than 3 goals in every game in the World Cup, except for today against Paraguay.

They shut France down and France had no answer to counter their strategy. How is that the equivalent to "a hail Mary at the end of the game"?

You can claim all you want that it isn't a blueprint, but that's just wishful thinking

Paraguay showed how to neutralize the French offense.

That’s why I prefer the minnows to go out. Want to see teams go head to head and showcase their talent and tactics without the Varsenal style of bunkering, diving, and hoping for set pieces.

Only Bayern, City, PSG, Barca scored more goals than Arsenal. And I guess defenders should stop blocking shots out for corners so the spurs fans can be happy.

It's why I said some of the defensive teams in this tourney won't go far. They offer zero going forward. They are nothing like Arsenal. Closer to Spurs.

Everyone one of his posts is about arsenal. It's better to just ignore that guy, he has legit mental issues. Not even joking.
