Players at least don’t care about guys laying down anymore. Everyone plays on now instead of kicking the ball out to pause for them.

Until they change the rules. They look over to the sideline and just drop. Whatever it takes to slow down the up tempo offenses though.

Not sure if I agree there. Uruguay player establishes himself in front of the ball and the Spain player ran right through his legs.

When are you going to get some gas station pills to help your wife with your flopping?

The vast majority of the time they are actually getting fouled. They just exaggerate, so it’s not “flopping” per se. Actually flopping (faking a foul) will get you a yellow card these days.

I disagree. It isn’t perfect, but I think FIFA has taken many steps to,improve it.

They don’t stop the game every time someone falls down.

Most of the time, they continue play so the player either gets up or they basically play a man down.

Players can get a yellow for obvious flopping.

The days of the stretcher crews have disappeared.

If a players needs to leave rh3 field, they can sub (if they have one) or have to wait to,come back in, basically causing their team to play with a man down.

I've thought a lot about this. I think the easiest fix is to make a rule that if a player is down for more than X amount of time, they need to exit the field for 2-3 minutes. Injury or not.

I believe you are correct, it is much better in this WC than past. Getting hit in your ankle or leg studs up hurts pretty damn bad to be honest. The theatrics after are unnecessary but to be down for a couple of seconds after that I have no problem with

It isn't them exaggerating contact trying to draw a foul call that's so annoying. I get why they do that and while it's a cheap tactic these games are for big stakes, so you want to take any advantage you can. But the subsequent 30 seconds of pointless rolling around on the ground in "pain" while the game continues around them is silly and embarrassing. Go to the ground if you're trying to draw a foul, but once it's clear that the ref isn't going to blow the whistle get up and resume play.

How long have you been watching soccer? The Argentines in 1986 made it into an art form

As many others have said, its gotten very toned down this WC. Having to come off for a minute if you get "treatment" really has helped. All it really is currently is trying to sell a foul. You only have 1 ref and 2 linesman to keep tabs on 22 players, and if you're actually fouled you have to make sure the ref sees it and calls it. In the past, it was definitely much more of a time wasting/momentum killing act. It hasn't really been that bad this year.

Its really no different than an NBA player flailing his arms around looking for a foul when driving to the basket. Or an NFL player acting like they are having a stroke mid pass rush to make the refs call a holding penalty.

Is purposefully hooking your leg into a player and simulating a foul flopping? Because that happens all the time and is never given a yellow for simulation.

That sort of is a rule already, if a medical team comes out to see to you.

This World Cup is setting a tone, in a great way, that I’m hoping will bleed into the upcoming seasons and start to tone down the idiocy of “flopping”. If you think they’re flopping now, you don’t watch much soccer year round. They’re letting them play… now the well delayed bullshite offsides we can discuss.
