The women always out make more than the men in a World Cup year. They are playing like 20 more games than the men. What are they bringing in per game?

And that’s only part of the equation. Men get paid more because you have to compensate them to make it worth their time to be away from their club team. Women.... yeah

Their arguing for equal pay has nothing to do with their talent compared to men/boys. It has everything to do with the level of interest and REVENUE they generate for the sport.

I fully support the women in their quest for equal pay ,but in Soccer & Tennis I'm sure it's the Men who generate the most revenue overall. Day in day out they keep the tours / sports alive it's seems. But in many of the Grand Slams or some World Cups the women draw far more interest / better ratings than the Men.

Just for the World Cup/ Tennis Majors why not pay bonuses based upon ratings / interest to equal out pay? At least among the Finalists or Semi Finalists.

They generated more revenue than the US men’s team, are WAY more successful and yet are paid substantially less money than the men’s team. That, in every single metric, is wrong. This isn’t about political or sexual preferences, it’s simply about basic economics! They are grossly underpaid and today is the best time they will have to argue this point because most of us only care about soccer during the World Cup! Which, by the way, they’ve now won 2 times in a row while our men’s team hasn’t even made it to the semi-finals!

your argument is very flawed. World wide the womens world cup is not even a pimple on a knats arse compared to amount of money, interest, fans, viewership and every other metric compared to the mens world cup. The mens world cup is the biggest most important single sporting event in the world by far while comparatively, the rest of the world barely even knows the womens world cup event is even taking place. Even in France, the country where the event is taking place, there is barely a murmer as to this event taking place among the French people themselves.

yes the uswnt generates more viewership and money for the national soccer federation then the usnmt does but that is actually just points to the issue that soccer is not very popular in the USA, which is a problem that needs to be addressed. But the MSL still dwarfs womens pro soccer even in this country. The answer is not to pump up the womens team but to focus more on developing the mens team.

An under 15 club would whip their arse.

Having said that, they play against their same sex, and they are the best of the women.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if my high school squad could beat them but we were better than average

FC Dallas’s U-15 team beat them. However it is important to note that FC Dallas’s U-15 team likely contains 4-5 future US U-17 players, 2-3 US U-20 players, and may even contain a future USMNT player. It’s probably the best U-15 team in the country and I have no doubt they would beat the best high school team in Louisiana.

People looking at their result versus the U-15 FC Dallas team and thinking that means that a decent high school team or beer league men’s team could beat the USWNT are way off because they don’t understand just how strong FC Dallas’s set-up is.

Think of Oak Hill/Monteverde in basketball or a John Curtis/West Monroe hybrid for the fans of high school football.

I don’t know much about soccer but from that article the team that beat them was an MLS prep team, basically the best 16 year olds in the country.

I’d imagine no actual high school team could do that.

Well, this response -- and those echoing its sentiments -- is stupid.

It's an interesting question.

Just like it's an interesting question to ask what level tennis player would beat Serena or what level basketball team would beat the WNBA champs.

Interesting post. Why would the Dallas U-15 team be better than a U-15 team of a similarly sized city?

which is comparable to the men’s team.

Now compare what the revenue the wimmenz team brought in vs revenue professional mens US soccer teams brought in. Because that's where the real equivalency actually is, right?

The best wimmenz and their crowds vs the best US menz and their crowds?

oh and btw:

The National Women’s Soccer League is owned and operated by the federation, which pays the club salaries for national team players to offset costs for club owners.

And yet no one offsets the costs for menz clubs??

Several reasons. First, they are the fifth largest metro in the US, I believe. Their soccer culture and development is amazing. The Dallas Texans were the best club team in terms of producing players and FC Dallas has picked up the mantle. They have some well regarded youth coaches, and when Oscar Pareja was coaching the senior team, he was involved with continuity with the youngsters.

They produce so many standouts. Jose Torres, Brek Shea, Weston McKennie, Paxton Pomychal, Kellyn Acosta, and more are players all developed (between the ages of 19 and 29; I am missing others but those are standouts).

The only cities in the US with comparable success are LA/SD and St. Louis, when you factor in it’s smaller size.

It’s the academy for FC Dallas of the MLS, not just a random club team. These kids are handpicked from a young age then groomed to be professional players.

I know nothing about soccer levels, but that's where I think this gets murky. A state champ? I'll agree. A mediocre men's high school team? IDK, man.
