I'm a soccer novice, but I do enjoy the sport and I keep up with the Premier League the most.

As the title asks, what is the order of importance of the British titles? From what I know, teams in England compete for the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League, teams who finish 5th and 6th in the Premier League compete in the Europa League (Champions League Jr.), and the Champions League.

Is this an accurate ranking?
1) Champions League

2) Premier League
3) FA Cup

4) Europa League

5) Carabao Cup

I'm a much bigger American sports fan, so perhaps some analogies would be helpful.

About right.

FA Cup is probably closer to the Europa League than the Premier League these days. This one seems bigger because Leicester never won it before.

Plus, winning the Europa League now gets you into the Champions League and winning the FA Cup gets you into the Europa League.

ETA: 5th, 6th, and 7th get into the Europa League (depending on the winners of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup).
Also you're missing the Community Shield, which is a very distant 6th.

Traditionally the FA cup was more important but I would put winning the Europa league over the FA cup. Winning the Europa league gets you into Champions league and allows you to play in the SuperCup.

Agreed. Winning Europa is a big trophy.

Champions League and Premier League have to be 1 and 1A...

i think they're equally hard to win and different teams want one or the other at different times... such as Liverpool wanting the Premier League more last season after they had already won the Champions League. Now Manchester City wants the Champions League more because they haven't won it

For me, the FA Cup is the best sports competition in the world. I know this isn't the case for the overwhelming majority of fans and clubs, but the day of the FA Cup Final used to be the biggest day for sport in England. If anyone wants to watch a great video about it, search YouTube for "Meanwhile Back in Sunderland". It details the town immediately before, during and after the 1973 FA Cup Final against Leeds United, which they won 1-0. I would link it but YouTube has it in four separate videos. Worth the watch for the nostalgia alone.

Agreed. Historically the FA Cup is the biggest prize. Now with European competitions, and the money that comes with it winning the League and Europe has become the bigger issue.

I do hope that with the recent Super League issues that a lot of fans will start to come back around and say the old-timers had it right.

What makes you think that? We walked the league after a bad year last year. I don’t believe they valued one over the other this year

I thought it was common knowledge... you now have 5 Premier League titles and still no Champions League

Say Chelsea win this years final

You’re telling me next season you wouldn’t prefer a CL title over a league title?

I think 95% of players and clubs would take the CL over the domestic title. The only reason liverpool were so desperate for the domestic title was because we hadn’t won in 30 years.

Honestly now that we’ve finally won it again, I’d take another 30 year drought if it meant winning CL 3-4 times in that drought. Europe will always be the biggest trophy.

here’s the problem with that... speaking historically, you have 19 titles and Manchester United has 20.

You’re gonna let United win, let’s say 7 more in those 30 years and be out of sight with 26, especially if you’re not winning any.

Then you have Arsenal at 13. Odds are they will get it together and win some eventually one of these days, especially if you’re guaranteed 30 years of none. They could join you at 19 if they win 6 more.

That’s 17 more. Chelsea and Manchester City each have 6 now. If they split most of what’s left, 8 apiece, they’ll have 14 in addition to Manchester United and Arsenal winning some.

And that leaves one more. Everton has 9 overall. They won’t win more than one, but can you imagine their fans if they win a Premier League with a Leicester-like team in the middle of your drought???

You can trash talk Bayern and Real Madrid fans on Twitter if you win those champions leagues, but the real Liverpool fans in the pubs would get tired of the real Arsenal and Manchester United and City and Chelsea and Everton fans mocking them.

It would be very controversial but I wouldn’t be against the 4th CL spot being awarded to the FA Cup winner.

I’d say fa cup is more like winning a conference tournament as an underdog and CarabGOAT is your thanksgiving week tournament
