He has been a high potential guy. He looked like a world class striker that half and we haven’t seen him do that consistently. Maybe flashes at most previously.
When he picked us he was absolutely destroying it at the club level. Nice to see him coming around on the national stage here.

This may be your first soccer game ever.
No team ever will be a 10 based on your idiotic criteria

One of the best halves of US soccer we’ve had.
The first half in 2002 against Portugal was unforgettable but had an element of flakiness. This doesn’t.
I agree. In the past, I would be worried that we'd gas out after over-exerting ourselves in H1 but we didn't play like maniacs and soccer is a different game in the press era

I loved how we chased every ball when we'd lose it and cut the passing lanes. We must've done that 10 times in the final 15 mins or so. That was a fricking mentality

They finished with the same number of points in qualifiers as Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay. I thought they'd give us fits.

Nerves and hopes were at all time high in that half

They came out of CONMEBOL on the strength of their defense.
Unfortunately for them we are picking that defense apart.

They gave up 10 goals total in 18 World Cup qualifiers.
USMNT just scored 3 in one half.

After the talk of "Mexico should have hosted the entire cup" from the the rest of the world and them glazing Mexico after last night this really felt like a big FU from team USA.
Haven't seen a USA team play with this type of passion in a long time

Guys, we're kicking their arse so bad, we have them scoring goals for US.

The roar of the crowd when the ball hit the back of the net on the third goal was incredible. fricking goose bumps.

Yea this is more of us playing out of our minds.
Don’t get me wrong. Paraguay looks like shite still. But we’re playing insanely well.

Pretty comfortably in the end, eight points clear of Bolivia who finished in the play-off spot, and level on points with Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia on 28 points from 18 games. Only Ecuador conceded fewer goals in South American qualifying, an indication of their defensive organisation and grit.

Paraguay already had a reputation as one of the stingier South American sides, but since Alfaro took over in August 2024, they have kept seven clean sheets and conceded just seven goals in 12 competitive games. Famous home wins over world champions Argentina and Brazil, averaging just 23 and 29 per cent of the ball in each, showed them at their stubborn best.
The team is anchored on towering centre-backs; Gustavo Gomez is the long-standing captain of Brazilian giants Palmeiras, while Omar Alderete has impressed since joining Premier League side Sunderland. The midfield is packed with tough-tacklers and willing runners, while there are flashes of excitement out on the wings, with the rapid Ramon Sosa and the ever-inventive Julio Enciso looking to provide the inspiration on the break.
They are a mid-level SA team with a really good D, typically
