Having rewatched the match, couple of notes:
- Healthy Musah needs to be an autoselection for every XI for the foreseeable future. The way he not only receives the ball in pressure, but his ability to effortlessly turn and dribble out of pressure is so important to what we're trying to do. It allows Adams to sit back as the natural 6 and for McKennie to take more chances as the other 8.
- This was the best game Weah has played in the a USMNT shirt. We have four wingers that have the ability to take over a game.
- Antonee Robinson is chaos personified, but he's the best left back this country has ever had.
- Zimmerman was our best CB tonight obviously. This is the first year where he has really put it together for the USMNT. With his and Miles' emergence this year, Richards waiting in the wings, Brooks being the known commodity that he is and Aaron Long coming back relatively soon, we may be deeper at CB than we are at wing.
- Yedlin has been objectively great in two qualifiers so far (tonight and at Honduras), he's also been objectively bad in one as well (vs Canada). He still has a role on this team and until we know what we have in Scally, he's second on the RB depth chart behind Dest.
- I really have no idea how GK should be handled the rest of the way, but I guess it's good to know that Steffen and Turner will be pushing each other.

This. No one else comes close to matching his skill set in the squad. He’s so good in the middle I can’t understand why he doesn’t play there for club too.

100% Agree but the playing style cannot be a relay race either because we're not playing Graham Zusi or Michael Bradley's anymore from the U.S. nor Canada.
Even against Jamaica,Trinidad. We've had hard games in the past because of the same reason.
Morenos are just fast, it's that simple.
Our playing style has to be possession based in order to compete.
Morenos are black people for info.

I'm still banned from the Mexico forum on BS. I have to log off to read the Mexico forum
Robinson best left back ever for the US? If the US was playing a WC match today I'd pick John O'Brien (he mostly played DM with us but LB for Ajax) and Fabian Johnson. I do like Robinson though; mixed bag for me last night.

Remaining USA Octagonal Matches via Wiki (1 match in Feb. & 3 matches in 6 days in March seems off to me)
11/16 - @ Jamaica
1/27 - vs. El Salvador
1/30 - @ Canada
2/2 - vs. Honduras
3/24 - @ Mexico
3/27 - vs. Panama
3/30 - @ Costa Rica
Because you’re looking at it wrong... we play 3 games in the next two windows. Same as the first two windows. One window is from 1/27-2/2 and the last window is 3/24-3/30.

Nice summary and agree, especially Weah he really elevated.
I know recency bias is a real thing, but that was as impressive a performance for a US team as I can remember in a game. The US was the overall better team and controlled the midfield against Mexico in a game that really mattered. Berhalter had the team ready to play and to his credit is asking his players to do things they are largely good at.
Combined with the whole stadium this seemed a bit like a coming out party for this long awaited generation. And all without dest, Reyna and Brooks.

The stadium chanting "dos a cero" from basically the moment McKennie scored beyond the final whistle was an awesome touch

Feels like we’ll be playing Jamaica with a A-, B squad looking at who’s out. No Reyna, Dest, Brooks, McKennie, Robinson, Pulisic even? Wasn’t sure he was going to come in against Mexico but damn glad he did!
Proud of this team. Great run this year and showed how deep we are

Yeah, Fabian’s heart was never that into it but he was so talented.
When Long comes back and if Richards keeps improving, we will have 5 legit central defenders.
We have some consistency now. We all expect the same three men to be our first choice midfielders.
In attack, when healthy, we have 4 wingers for two spots plus Pepi up too. I don’t have to name the three midfielders and four wingers because everyone knows who they are.
I don’t think it’s even a debate right now that, again if fully healthy, we have 17/23 spots locked up for Qatar.
I’ll pull an ASN 100 and do a Keys 18 and no one is going to disagree except maybe slotting a guy up or down a spot, when it comes to position players.
I’m including the goalkeepers in a slightly different way, making sure to have three in no matter what
1. Pulisic
2. McKennie
3. Adams
4. Dest
5. Weah
6. Gio Reyna
7. Musah
8. Brooks (legacy ranking)
9. Pepi
10. Steffen
11. Turner
12. Antonee Robinson
13. Aaronsen
14. Long when healthy
15. Zimmerman
16. Yedlin
17. Miles Robinson
18. Horvath or whoever is our third keeper
Let’s say Scally, Busio, and Richards keep it up, that’s 21 guys.
That’s a balanced group: 4 wingers, 1 target man, 3 goalkeepers, 4 central midfielders, 4 backs, 5 central defenders
Add 2 attacking players and we are set for Qatar (unless roster sizes get expanded).
I realize not everyone will be healthy at the same time but we have between 17 and 20 shoo-in selections. I can’t think of a time where we had so many players at that level.
On top of that, look at their ages. One man will have just turned 30 and that’s our first elder statesmen
Most of these guys are going to be in their early primes…in 2026

Dike will move to Serie A in January and ball out and lock up #2 striker. As much as I will hate to see it, OCSC ain’t making it past the second round of the playoffs, so he should be pretty well rested come the transfer window.
Then it’s a toss up for that last attacker position if we are talking WC roster, but I think you need a Zardes type to drop back in defense late in a game to protect a lead.
Also anyone ever found out what happened to pville? He would have been all in this thread.

Crazy to think Sargent may not be included in next year’s group. People were so excited about him.

He was when Jurgen was here. He covered the most ground of any RB in the World Cup.
The problem with Fab was that he was our best winger and outside back at that time that he never had a locked down position.

Jordan Morris is a strong shout to make the 23 since he can play on the wing and up top. That’s assuming he gets back into form over the next year.

Have to imagine he will get called into the December camp next month. Hopefully Scally is part of that too with the Bund in their winter break.

Striker is such a wishy-washy position that you really don't have a good idea on who will be going to the World Cup until like 2 or 3 months before the final roster selection.
If Sargent starts bagging goals in Norwich and Pepi hits a dry spell, Pepi could very easily be left at home.

These are probably the people fighting over the last 5 spots on the team
Defense
Joe Scally
Reggie Cannon
Matt Miazga
Shaq Moore
Mark McKenzie
Chris Richards
maybe Bryan Reynolds
Midfield
Kellyn Acosta
Gianluca Busio
Paul Arriola
Seb Lletget
Kellyn Acosta
Luca de la Torre
Julian Green
Tyler Boyd
Konrad de la Fuente
maybe Tanner Tressman
maybe Djorde Mihailovic

Jozy Altidore
Gyasi Zardes
Matthew Hoppe
Jordan Pefok
Daryl Dike
Josh Sargent
Jesus Ferreira
maybe Jordan Morris
This is by far the best list of players who will be cut that I've ever seen
